The Opportunity We’re hiring a Senior Accounting Technician to take ownership of day‑to‑day file execution across bookkeeping, payroll, GST/HST, and working paper preparation—supporting our CPAs and managers in delivering high‑quality outputs on time. You’ll work across multiple clients and industries, help standardize workflows, and contribute to a strong service culture. What You’ll Do Maintain client books (month‑end/quarter‑end) including bank/credit card reconciliations, A/R, A/P, and journal entries Prepare and post recurring entries (accruals, prepaids, amortization support, clearing accounts) Investigate variances and resolve bookkeeping issues efficiently GST/HST + compliance support Prepare GST/HST returns and reconciliations (including ITC support and audit‑ready documentation) Maintain clean audit trails and support CRA information requests as needed Payroll Process payroll and source deductions, prepare ROEs as required, and support year‑end (T4/T4A) preparation Month‑end reporting Produce reliable financial statements and management reports for review (P&L, balance sheet, A/R, A/P, bank position) Assist with budgeting support and basic variance commentary where appropriate Year‑end and tax support Assist with year‑end working paper file preparation (lead sheets, schedules, reconciliations) Support corporate/personal tax prep teams by organizing client documents, mapping accounts, and preparing schedules (e.g., auto, meals, home office, etc. where applicable) Client communication Request missing items, clarify transactions, follow up on outstanding questions, and maintain strong client relationships Process improvement Help improve templates, checklists, file standards, and workflow steps (including adding in light AI/automation where helpful) Tools You’ll Use QuickBooks Online, Xero Dext/Hubdoc (if used on the file), Excel/Google Sheets Practice management/workflow tools (e.g., Karbon or similar), e‑sign, secure portals Payroll platforms (varies by client) What We’re Looking For 5+ years’ experience in bookkeeping/accounting, ideally with public practice exposure Strong proficiency in QBO, Xero and Excel Comfortable with new tech Solid working knowledge of GST/HST, payroll basics, and month‑end close High attention to detail, organized, and comfortable managing multiple files/deadlines Confident communicator with a client‑service mindset Post‑secondary training in accounting/business (or equivalent experience) Nice‑to‑Haves Experience supporting a TaxCycle / DT Max environment (organizing tax data, schedules, client requests) Experience preparing working papers for compilation engagements Comfort using AI features What We Offer Competitive compensation based on experience Supportive team culture and clear processes Training and professional development Opportunity to grow into senior file lead / reviewer responsibilities How to Apply Email your resume (and optionally a short note) to info@padgetthalifax.ca with subject line: Senior Accounting Technician — Padgett Halifax.
