The course is divided in two parts. First, we examine the general features of Canada’s system of urban governance — the basic machinery of local government and municipal administration; the mandate and functions of local agencies and regional authorities; and the role of federal and provincial governments in local affairs. Next, we dive deeper into the local policy process, particularly how municipal governments raise and spend money to deliver public services.Estimated Course Enrolment: 15Estimated Number of Positions: 1Date of Appointment: September 1, 2023 - December 31, 2023Qualifications: Ph.D. (Geography, planning, political science or related field) preferred or relevant/equivalent industry experienceDuties:All normal duties related to the design, teaching and delivery of a University graduate-level credit course including: Leading weekly seminars and discussions; designing graduate level assignments; arranging field trips, guest speakers and/or other experiential learning opportunities. Meeting with student teams to guide/advise them on their assignments. Holding weekly office hours.Marking/evaluating all student assignments; recording student attendance; recording and submitting grades; and communicating with students on course related matters. Building and maintaining Quercus course shell.Design course syllabus, content and assignments in close consultation with Program Director.
