Our organization is an integrated system of hospitals: Whitehorse General Hospital (68 beds), Watson Lake Community Hospital (6 beds) and Dawson City Community Hospital (6 beds).As a multidisciplinary team member, the incumbent provides nursing care for patients through the administration and implementation of medical investigation and therapeutic programs through the application of knowledge of general nursing, physical health, and psycho-social well-being; provides organization, direction, supervision and collaboration in the planning and implementation of nursing best practices.Knowledge, skills and abilities required:Excellent knowledge of culture, traditions, social history and economic conditions of Yukon First Nations;Good knowledge of counselling methods and techniques;Good Knowledge of trends and developments in social service field with particular emphasis on First Nations requirements;Knowledge of health and social programs in the Yukon;Knowledge of relevant computer software;Excellent communications skill, both oral and written;Strong counselling skills;Strong analytical skills;Good interpersonal skills for consensus building and problem solving;Ability to plan and develop culturally relevant health counselling, healthy lifestyles and other support programs for First Nations people;Ability to plan and provide culturally appropriate patient teaching methods;Initiative to self-direct and maintain program delivery;Flexibility and good judgment;Reliability; andAbility to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment.The successful candidate will have extensive experience with Yukon First Nations’ people and graduation from an acceptable social service or health care program (4 years) is required for this position. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training is desired. An equivalent combination of education and extensive related working experience may also be considered.
