Data Architect

OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Data Architect to lead the design and implementation of a scalable, cloud-based data architecture supporting the analytics and reporting needs of a private equity fund management firm. This role focuses on building a robust, high-performance data platform leveraging Azure Synapse, Snowflake, dbt, and Dagster. Our mission is to transform data into strategic assets for financial services firms, driving growth and innovation through tailored solutions.ResponsibilitiesDefine and implement the overall data architecture strategy to support ingestion, transformation, and analytics for the client’s investment and operational data.Design and model scalable data structures to support portfolio performance, valuation, investor reporting, and financial analytics.Ensure data models are optimized for analytical performance, governance, and regulatory compliance.Data Platform DevelopmentArchitect and oversee data pipelines integrating Azure Synapse, Snowflake, dbt, and Dagster.Lead the design and development of ELT/ETL processes, ensuring efficiency, reliability, and data lineage visibility.Collaborate with data engineers to establish version-controlled, modular dbt models for transformation and documentation.Implement orchestration frameworks and workflow automation using Dagster or equivalent tools.Governance, Quality & SecurityDefine and enforce best practices for data governance, metadata management, and access control across the platform.Implement frameworks for data quality monitoring, validation, and observability.Ensure data security aligns with financial sector standards and organizational compliance policies.Partner with business stakeholders, data engineers, and analysts to translate analytical and reporting requirements into scalable technical solutions.Provide architectural oversight during implementation, ensuring design integrity and performance optimization.Mentor team members on best practices in data modeling, dbt development, and workflow orchestration.QualificationsProven experience designing and implementing enterprise-grade data architectures on Azure and Snowflake.Hands-on proficiency in dbt for data transformation, testing, and documentation.Experience with Dagster (or similar orchestration tools such as Airflow or Prefect).Strong SQL and data modeling capabilities (both normalized and dimensional).Understanding of data security, lineage, and compliance in financial services environments.Proficiency in Python for data engineering and automation workflows.Preferred SkillsExperience mentoring junior engineers.Experience integrating data from fund administrators, portfolio management systems, and external market data providers.Certifications in Azure Data Engineering or Snowflake Data Architecture.CompensationCompetitive compensation, performance bonus.
