This is a full‑time term position ending September 2026, with a possibility of extension. We take great pride in being a student‑centered Faculty, focused on ensuring that your academic journey is rich, meaningful, and memorable.” Position Overview Working in a digital team environment, the Writing Specialist contributes to the Write Site’s mission to support and encourage writers to develop confidence and skill in their academic communications. The Writing Specialist coaches several students per day, both synchronously and asynchronously, providing a high standard of service to students and developing positive relationships with them. Job Responsibilities Provide feedback on undergraduate and graduate writing assignments Provide guidance to students struggling with any part of the writing process Respectfully model correct usage of the English language Create resources for use by students seeking to improve their writing skills Participate in the creation and delivery of webinars on various writing topics Offer outstanding, thoughtful, timely service to adult and post‑secondary students Provide technical support with online systems to students Perform administrative duties including responding promptly to emails and phone calls Qualifications The successful candidate will have in‑depth experience working one‑on‑one with post‑secondary students to help improve their writing across disciplines and at preparatory/pre‑university, undergraduate, and graduate levels. Experience in distance learning and familiarity with digital delivery for both synchronous and asynchronous methods is preferred. Experience with diverse student demographics is an asset. A minimum of a Master’s degree in Writing Studies, English, Composition and Rhetoric or a related field A minimum combined 3 years’ experience teaching academic writing at a post‑secondary level, working in a post‑secondary writing centre, and/or working as a writing coach or tutor Qualifications and/or experience with ESL/EAL students, students with disabilities, BIPOC students, and other marginalized demographics is an asset and may be considered in conjunction with other qualifications This position requires excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent computer skills; familiarity with writing centre best practices and asynchronous coaching or tutoring methods; familiarity with adult learners; the ability to build meaningful relationships with students in a digital environment; and in‑depth knowledge of writing skills, strategies, and resources.
