This position reports to: Canada Region Leader. As an R&D Supervisor, you lead a team of Research and Development employees and support them in achieving the agreed R&D targets. You coach and develop the team, help manage technologies, platforms, and Intellectual Property (IP). The role contributes to the Electrification, Installation Products division of ABB Canada and is located in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. The work model is hybrid. Responsibilities Technical and scientific proficiency and leadership – serve as a technical resource for the team and provide technical support for internal and external contacts. Technology direction – support the creation of technology and product roadmaps. Innovation and creativity – drive and foster a culture of innovation within the team. Projects, processes, and tools – plan and ensure an appropriate project portfolio for the team, including capacity, people, and resources for R&D projects; oversee efficient, timely and quality project execution and provide financial and content supervision; recommend, develop, and improve processes, procedures, and tools to enhance team operations; apply and monitor appropriate development and quality standards. R&D context – stay on top of technology, innovation ideas, and customer and market developments to provide inputs to projects; evaluate market requirements and provide feedback to product, manufacturing, and R&D strategies; work with neighboring organizations and management to ensure appropriate representation of needs for the R&D team to be successful. Knowledge transfer – support and oversee transfer of technology and knowledge within the team and the larger organization as well as with external resources and communities; ensure appropriate documentation of knowledge. Network and visibility – build, develop, and maintain trust‑based relationships with internal (other R&D units, product management, operations, business management) and external (customers, standardization bodies, universities, etc.) contacts; represent the R&D team toward various stakeholders to foster cooperation; contribute to scientific and/or technical bodies relevant to ABB R&D. Intellectual Property (IP) and risk management – ensure R&D risks are properly managed; address IP issues and risks, especially when collaborating with third parties; handle risk and opportunity assessment and mitigation strategy in the area of responsibility. Finance and budget – prepare annual budgets for the team in cooperation with R&D management; ensure efficient use of funds; support R&D project managers in developing project budgets. People leadership and development – manage and motivate assigned internal and external resources, applying ABB's HR policies; allocate work/tasks and supervise workload within the team; ensure appropriate staffing and skill development; develop and acquire competencies needed for future products and systems; manage talent through coaching, performance feedback, and provide development and career opportunities.
