Forestry Co-Op Student (3 Vacancies) City of Burlington Base pay range: CA$21.50/hr – CA$22.00/hr Employment type: Student/Co-Op Employee Group: Non-Union Hours of Work: Up to 40 hours per week Location: Work in person at 3330 Harvester Road and various city sites; location may change. Position Overview: Assist Forestry technician staff in the day‑to‑day administration of programs related to maintaining the city’s urban forest assets. Additional responsibilities include quality control assessments, inspection of tree assets, communication with project partners, and inventory of tree assets using GIS systems in the field. Work period: April 27, 2026 – approx. August 28, 2026. Responsibilities Inspect and evaluate city assets, generating and processing work records using GIS asset management software. Support the administration of annual work programs related to planting, stumping, and pest management. Assist Forest Technicians in coordinating, scheduling, and monitoring outside contractors, including performing quality control inspections. Review, research, and compile correspondence and technical reports as directed. Inspect and verify replacement trees planted as part of the private tree by‑law on private property. Assist Forest Protection Officers in reviewing tree permit applications and tree protection hoarding. Assist intake of tree permit applications and file coordination. Respond to the public and other city departments on various issues as directed. Perform other administrative duties as assigned. Requirements Enrolled in post‑secondary education in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, or a related field. Familiar with urban forest planning and health, including tree planting, stumping, inventory, and integrated pest management. Working knowledge of GIS and GPS systems; proficiency with Microsoft Office. Strong project management, report writing, research, communication, and organizational skills. Valid G2 driver’s licence with an acceptable driver’s abstract (max 3 convictions or demerit points in the past 3 years). May be required to work outside regular hours to meet job demands.
