OverviewReporting to the Corporate Vice President, Environment, Permitting & Licensing, the Vice President, Health, Safety, Environment, and Radiation (HSER) is a key member of NexGen’s Saskatchewan Leadership team and is responsible for setting the strategic direction and managing all aspects of NexGen’s HSER programs across Saskatchewan-based office and field operations. This role will be responsible for the maintenance, evolution, and continual improvement of NexGen’s HSER programs in accordance with NexGen’s vision and values and in a manner that fully reflects regulatory compliance, operational readiness, and risk mitigation during the site preparation and construction phase of the Rook I Project and during the transition to operations.DescriptionApplication Deadline: 24 October 2025Department: SafetyLocation: SaskatoonResponsibilitiesChampion a proactive, behaviour-based, safety-first culture that reflects NexGen’s values, strategic priorities, and commitment to environmental protection and operational excellence.Set the strategic direction for HSER across all NexGen Saskatchewan-based activities, ensuring full alignment with corporate objectives and ESG commitments.Establish Saskatchewan-wide measures targeting reduction of environmental footprint and enhancement of HSER performance.Manage, develop, and provide leadership to NexGen’s HSER team, including supporting continual development and coaching/mentoring of workforce department managers and area leads as they relate to HSER responsibilities.Manage NexGen’s crisis management emergency response planning, including leading training for corporate, office-based, and site-based activities.Oversee processes related to identification, mitigation, and management of critical HSER risks, opportunities, and emerging trends.Oversee the phased evolution of the HSER management system in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and provincial and federal regulations, implementing and sustaining policies, procedures, and metrics aligned with best-in-class execution.Direct the development and execution of site-specific HSER strategies in collaboration with Project, site, and operational leaders.Lead the Saskatchewan-based HSER management team to ensure integration with other functional areas, including Project, site, and other Saskatchewan-based activities.Provide oversight and leadership to the HSER team in maintaining strong, constructive relationships with provincial and federal regulatory bodies, industry associations, and community stakeholders.Represent NexGen in HSER matters during consultations, regulatory hearings, and public engagements.Ensure HSER compliance with applicable legislation, including permitting, inspections, audits, and reporting.Provide executive oversight for all serious incidents and high-potential HSER events, ensuring investigations are conducted with rigor, root causes identified, and effective corrective actions and lessons learned implemented to prevent recurrence.Oversee monitoring and continual refinement of leading and lagging HSER KPIs and deliver regular executive reports and insights.Direct Company-wide HSER risk and hazard identification and mitigation processes, including overseeing HSER team participation in engineering and construction reviews.Build and lead a high-performing HSER team commensurate with organizational and site-based needs, fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, and accountability.Skills, Knowledge and Expertise20+ years of progressive experience in health, safety, and environmental leadership roles, including 5+ years at a senior or executive level in the mining, energy, or heavy industrial sectors. Experience specifically within the uranium mining and milling or nuclear industry is considered an asset.Demonstrated experience leading HSER functions for large-scale projects and operations in a Canadian-regulated environment, with preference for experience in Saskatchewan.Strong knowledge of Saskatchewan and Canadian occupational health, safety, and environmental legislation and regulations and industry best practices.Experience working with large project teams and multi-stakeholder environments, including regulators and Indigenous Nations.Proven track record of strategic program development and enterprise-wide HSER transformation.Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.Post-secondary education in occupational health and safety, environmental science, engineering, or related discipline.
