Senior Plant Engineer/Officer – Ontario Power Generation Status: Regular Full Time   Working Conditions: Hybrid   Education Level: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering   Base Location: Timmins, ON   Shifts: Days   Travel: 25%   Deadline to Apply: December 4, 2025   Salary Range: $1,704.68 - $2,924.93 Per Week Job Overview Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a dynamic, strategic and results‑driven professional to serve as Senior Plant Engineer/Officer (Electrical). Reporting to the Production Supervisor – Technical, the position provides electrical/protection & control engineering technical support for the safe and efficient operation of OPG’s NorthEast hydroelectric operations. Key Accountabilities Plan, coordinate and conduct electrical engineering assessments, studies, inspections, investigations, designs, and evaluations for generators, power systems transformers and control associated with hydroelectric generating stations and related infrastructure. Perform condition and risk assessments and provide recommendations regarding life‑cycle management of electrical infrastructure. Prepare drawings, technical specifications, construction estimates, Request for Proposals, proposal evaluation, award, contract negotiations, administration, coordination, construction monitoring, and resolution of contract disputes. Provide input to business plans, work plans and budgets concerning project priorities, schedules and resource requirements. Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, consultants, contractors and government agencies as required. Act as a technical expert in electrical engineering, providing advice, guidance, consultation and services to engineering problems including electrical/protection & control matters related to projects and operations. Develop plans, standards and technical procedures for inspection, maintenance and monitoring programs. Serve on study, project teams or task groups, pre‑start health and safety reviews, and investigations of safety or technical incidents. Respond to emergencies, equipment failure and unsatisfactory equipment performance by conducting field investigations, preparing reports and recommending actions. Qualifications Four‑year Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Minimum two years of experience in an electrical engineering role, preferably in a hydroelectric generating facility or industrial power systems/utility organization. AutoCAD experience preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of the OH&S Act, Ont. Reg. 851, Ont. Reg. 213, Ontario Electrical Safety Code and related codes and standards for electrical engineering. Experience planning and conducting assessments, studies, inspections, investigations, designs, evaluations, construction monitoring and maintenance of electrical works at a hydroelectric generating station. Ability to independently problem‑solve using methods and tools required for electrical engineering applications. Broad knowledge and experience with AC & DC systems, communication, generators, protection/control systems, grounding, instrumentation, LV/MV systems & switchgear, oil containment, PLCs, transformers, teleprotection, SCADA, data historians and MS Office. Strong report preparation and communication skills; ability to work with people; result‑oriented, efficient and value‑oriented focus; excellent verbal and written communication; high integrity. Willingness to travel (road, airplane, float plane, helicopter) up to 25% of time. Ability to work effectively in a flexible hybrid office environment. Valid Class G Ontario driving licence in good standing. Fully licensed engineer in Ontario, or eligible to be licensed.
