Associate/Full Professor

Overview Applications are invited for the Psychiatrist-in-Chief at Sinai Health System (SHS), a fully affiliated academic hospital of the University of Toronto. We are seeking an experienced, contemporary leader, able to develop and implement a strategic vision, build teams and establish productive partnerships. Sinai Health provides acute care, complex and rehabilitative care, primary care, home care, and other community-based services to create an innovative and integrated continuum of care, meeting the needs of complex patients. Its Psychiatry Department comprises 31 full time Active Staff and 22 part time staff, providing services at Mount Sinai Hospital and Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital. Areas of focus include inpatient psychiatry, consultation/liaison services, ambulatory and community mental health programs, in addition to multiple priorities such as perinatal and women’s mental health and geriatric psychiatry. Responsibilities The Psychiatrist-in-Chief is responsible for the clinical, academic and program/operational management of the Department of Psychiatry. They will work with operational and medical leaders at Sinai Health and the University of Toronto. They will develop and implement strategic planning, aligned with the Hospital and University, to achieve outstanding clinical, educational and academic success. They will work with the Sinai Health Foundation to develop and manage philanthropic funding, and manage and report on the use of funds. They will be a visionary, with superior leadership qualities, strong operational management skills, and an excellent communicator, able to mentor junior faculty and foster partnerships. They will be a respected clinician, with a commitment to provision of highest quality care, interprofessional and multilevel education, and have a proven track record and/or commitment to advancing research and scholarship. They will have demonstrated ability to create and maintain a workplace and learning environment that is respectful, safe for all staff, trainees and patients, and of the highest quality. They will foster a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion within the Department, and maintain professionalism and physician wellness. The Psychiatrist-in-Chief will report to the President & CEO, Sinai Health, and to the Chair, Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto. Remuneration is in accordance with the compensation of a psychiatrist in the province of Ontario. Estimated remuneration will commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience. The Psychiatrist-in-Chief is expected to devote 3 days/week to the role, and to continue an active Psychiatry practice. The position is for a 5‑year term, renewable once, based upon a successful review. The effective start date is February 1, 2026 or shortly thereafter. Qualifications The successful candidate must hold an MD degree, have or be eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Psychiatry, and have or be eligible for licensure in Ontario, Canada. They should also be eligible for a senior academic appointment (Associate or Full Professor) in the Department of Psychiatry, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.
