Role Overview Hatfield is seeking a Junior to Intermediate Hydrogeologist (or a geologist / engineer with interest and experience in groundwater) to join our Water Resource Group. The successful candidate will provide field and technical support for the design and implementation of hydrogeology, hydrology and water resource management components of Hatfield’s energy, oil and gas, mining, municipal and infrastructure projects in Alberta and British Columbia. This is a full-time permanent position with a mix of office and fieldwork. Responsibilities : Design and/or participate in hydrogeologic investigations (baseline), water supply and (compliance) monitoring programs (water quality). Prepare, participate and lead (after appropriate training and mentoring) field programs for hydrogeology, hydrology and water quality data collection and monitoring. Field programs may occur at local or remote locations, primarily in Alberta and British Columbia, with varying durations depending on project workloads. Compile, manage and interpret hydrogeologic, water use, water quality and other environmental data (e.g., review of near-real-time telemetry, continuous and periodic water level and lab data). Interact with a multidisciplinary team to support coordination and/or implementation of other environmental monitoring programs (e.g., water quality, aquatic, fish). Draft reports for submission to regulatory agencies or clients. Education and Experience : Minimum two years of experience. Degree in geology, environmental sciences or engineering with academic training in hydrogeology and a minimum one year of pertinent experience (e.g., work or graduate degree thesis). Currently registered or eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) as a member in training. Experience supervising/undertaking drilling programs, overburden and bedrock logging, well/VWP installation, hydrogeologic testing (e.g., slug tests, pump tests) and groundwater sampling. Fluent English verbal communication and the ability to write concisely. Experience and a keen interest in field work; willingness to work in remote locations, adverse weather conditions and overtime as required. Experience and interest in data compilation and analysis. Willingness to learn new skills in the field and office; flexibility to contribute to other environmental programs (climate, hydrology, etc.). Valid driver’s license with eligibility for coverage under Hatfield’s corporate insurance. Other Assets / Skills : Inclination for quantitative hydrogeology / hydrology and/or groundwater modelling (e.g., MODFLOW, Groundwater Vistas, FEFLOW) is highly desirable. Hydrometric / climate station installation, data logger programming, surveying and streamflow measurement. Experience with data compilation and analysis using software such as Aquarius, EQuIS or similar for data loading, editing, reporting and visualization. Background in R, statistics, coding and/or GIS. Experience in vadose zone hydrogeology and water quality/geochemistry. History of progressively responsible positions in geological or hydrogeological programs.
