Senior Designer

Scope Of Position Based on the needs of the Customer, a Senior Designer designs cost‑effective formwork, shoring and scaffolding solutions, and prepares drawings (including material take‑offs) for standard designs and advanced custom designs. The Senior Designer is expected to attend meetings, develop direct relationships with customers, and communicate technical issues directly with them. They will schedule, train, direct design efforts, check, and approve the work of junior team members, and take responsibility for their own design work and that of those they supervise on a project‑by‑project basis. Engineering, Bolton, ON What You’ll Do On a Typical Day Develop formwork, shoring and scaffolding solutions for various building and infrastructure construction projects, utilizing PERI’s advanced systems when required. Create or direct the creation of general arrangement, assembly, and steel fabrication drawings in 3D and 2D. Prepare sophisticated offer presentations for PERI customers. Collaborate with PERI’s Technical Sales Consultants to provide cost‑effective design solutions. Interface directly with customers to understand their needs. Work closely with design professionals (e.g., internal & external stamping engineers) to ensure designs meet national and local standards (CSA, OHSA, building codes). Perform and document design calculations using in‑house and external structural analysis software to ensure safe and economical designs. Demonstrate knowledge and design skills of an experienced design professional. Provide concepts and design direction to Engineering Interns, Draftspeople and Designers. Review and approve drawings and calculations of junior team members, arranging for drawing authentication. Create or direct material lists. Check or delegate responsibility for material lists produced by others. Create and maintain engineering‑related documents. Help set department work schedules and assign tasks to meet PERI’s customer needs. Adhere to drafting and engineering procedures outlined in the Quality Management System and Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP). Mentor, assist, and instruct Engineering Interns, Draftspeople and junior Designers. Visit job sites and provide regular technical support. Perform other related duties as assigned. What You’ll Need To Be Successful Degree in Civil Engineering, diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or relevant industry experience/education. 5+ years of experience in structural engineering and construction. 3+ years of experience using AutoCAD. 4+ years of experience using structural analysis software. Design experience in formwork (scaffolding design experience is an asset). Demonstrated leadership skills. Excellent understanding of structural and architectural drawings, and construction sequencing. Good grasp of Canadian and Provincial Building Standards and Codes; knowledge of European standards relevant to formwork and/or scaffolding is an asset. Advanced PERI product knowledge. Bilingual (English and French) is an asset. Valid vehicle and driver’s license required. High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, drive, and ability to prioritize tasks for self and others. Sense of urgency. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to engage with customers at a high level and contribute solutions to design challenges. Skill in mentoring and training team members. Rapid learning ability and capacity to work independently in a fast‑paced environment. Teamwork orientation. Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills. Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite. Advanced AutoCAD 2D and 3D skills. Experience with Revit is an asset.
