Intermediate Environmental Planner Join Stantec’s Alberta Environmental Services group as an Intermediate Environmental Planner. In this role you will support all stages of projects—from assessment and permitting to construction and post‑construction—working with biological, physical sciences, human environment, and engineering teams to deliver transmission and distribution projects. We support flexible work solutions, including hybrid schedules. The work environment is primarily office‑based with occasional project site visits. Key Responsibilities Prepare and review environmental evaluations, regulatory applications, and technical submissions. Support and ensure implementation of Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) policies and coordinate with HSSE professionals during project phases. Drive project delivery with a focus on efficient execution, project controls, and safety. Collaborate with technical environmental and engineering specialists to support approval and permitting processes. Contribute to proposals, pre‑qualifications, and relationship building with existing and prospective clients. Communicate and collaborate with regulatory specialists to ensure consistency in project execution. Participate in team and independent work. Engage in on‑the‑job learning and professional development opportunities. Capabilities and Credentials Work with initiative, professionalism, and confidentiality in a dynamic environment. Support development of junior staff. Strong knowledge of provincial (AB) and federal regulations, environmental assessment processes, permitting requirements and construction planning. Experience with regulations/legislation: AUC, AEP, AER, EPEA, Public Lands Act. Strong attention to detail. Effective writing and communication skills. Proven problem‑solving skills and innovative thinking. Commitment to quality deliverables in a timely manner. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Science, Environmental Studies, or relevant Engineering field. Holding or eligibility to obtain a relevant professional designation (P. Bio, R.P.F., P.Ag, EP, P.Eng) preferred. Minimum 3 years of environmental and regulatory experience in the energy sector (upstream/midstream oil & gas, mining, electrical transmission, power generation, energy transition). Previous consulting experience preferred. Work Environment Office-based work with long periods of computer use; limited field work or site visits may involve exposure to inclement weather.
