Digital Product Owner

Location: Hybrid - Toronto – 1-2/week (Wednesdays, Thursdays typically, flexible)Contract Duration: ASAP to Jan 30, 2026 – approx. 10 monthsPossibility of extensionNumber of Positions: 1Schedule Hours: 9am-5pm Monday-Friday; standard 37.5 hrs/weekReason: Require a product manager to lead the delivery of FY25 outcomes.Typical Day in RoleReporting into Snr Product Manager – Open Banking, this role will work closely with UX and CX designers, multiple engineering teams, and other Product Owners to operationalize their role in the Open Banking roadmap. This individual will:Define product releases and iteration backlog based on overall vision and input from business SMEs, customer experience and the agile teamUnderstand and articulate the product vision, including its objectives, value proposition, and key risks associated with opportunities/ideasDevelop product roadmap and high-level backlog, further decomposed into releases which deliver significant value to the end userPrioritize (and continuously reprioritize) delivery based on the calculated benefits/value of identified features/epicsHas a strong customer focus, creates a clear understanding of customer needs and desired outcomes and socializes them for alignment. Utilizes data, analytics and customer feedback to make decisions.Be the voice of product and customer in planning sessions, stand-ups, retrospectives, iteration reviews and other team meetings in order to verify that the output of the team is consistently delivering business value and aligned with the agreed upon commitmentsAdvocate for the highest attainable levels of quality and for approaches that will minimize the impact of technical debt on the product and organization.Review the output of the agile team at the end of every iteration, and before the product is released into the market, to ensure that it meets expectationsEnsure full awareness of market and trends in the business environment through effective communication with stakeholders; using research and available analysis to help inform ideasCommunicate effectively across diverse audiences within and outside of the development team (Stakeholders, Executives), acting as a champion of the agile methodologyPartner with stakeholders to put a long-term vision together for Open Banking capabilities, with a clear view of the broader financial landscape and a grasp of different financial business models and their requirements.Candidate Requirements / Must Have Skills8+ years of total relevant working experience, with 5+ years of experience in a Product Owner Role working closely with engineering and design teams5+ years of experience working within an Agile environment demonstrating expert organizational acumen5+ years’ hands-on experience with technical architecture, specifically with API’s and microservices3-5 years of experience working with Digital journeys (Front and Backend) and delivering technology projects3+ years’ experience JIRA and Confluence to write BRDs and product briefsNice-To-Have SkillsBanking / Financial Services / Experience from a similar highly matrixed large organizationExperience working on initiatives that are very customer-focusedEngineering backgroundSoft Skills RequiredCandidate will be communicating with senior level individuals on a day to dayExcellent communication skills both written and verbalAbility to communicate complex concepts with increasingly senior shareholders and integrate work and priorities across multiple teamsCandidate must be a team player, that does not need to be micromanaged – wants someone who can get up and hit the ground running every morning without necessarily being told what to doAbility to manage assigned tasks and expectations without direct instruction or oversightFast, adaptable learner who can hit the ground runningAbility to work well under pressure while demonstrating strong professionalismMust be able to collaborate closely with a team at times, while also being capable of holding themselves accountable to meet individual deadlines without hand holdingEducationBachelor’s degree in a related fieldMaster’s or equivalent strongly preferredScrum Product Owner certification preferredBest vs. Average CandidateIdeal candidate has a very hands-on detail oriented approach, who can be strongly embedded with the team and ensures that things are moving forward; able to deal with ambiguous environments, is a self-starter, requires minimal hand holding; expert with writing user stories and product documentation; experience in moving complex initiatives in a large organization with many stakeholders will set them apart - a lot of time on the job is spent in navigating the organization, so someone who can pick that up quickly will be more succesful; if they have a technical bench and are good at understanding technical concepts (whether through education or experience) will be great to hit the ground running; strong communication and soft skills are key; Has a strong customer focus, creates a clear understanding of customer needs and desired outcomes and socializes them for alignment.
