Property Underwriter, Western Region

About the Role We are looking for an Underwriter to join the Property Western Region team in Canada and contribute to our sustainable growth and profitability. You will be part of a team of experienced Underwriters supporting the General Property business in Canada, reporting to and working closely with the Team Lead, Property Western Region. The position offers you the opportunity to develop key broker and client relationships, focusing on large corporate and middle market risk segments. You will provide property underwriting expertise to our clients, ensure compliance standards and underwriting in line with existing Swiss Re underwriting guidelines. Key responsibilities include: Production underwriting position responsible for handling large Global structured programs as well as 100% single-carrier accounts Build and maintain relationships with key brokers and clients which includes regular, effective communication of any account or portfolio specific issues Represent Swiss Re Corporate Solutions in meetings with client, brokers, and other Swiss Re Group entities Target and select risks effectively, ensuring adherence to internal underwriting guidelines and effective execution of underwriting portfolio strategy Learn and optimally employ Swiss Re underwriting tools to develop pricing, terms, and conditions at an account level in line with underwriting guidelines and corporate strategy Assist in the timely issuance of binders and policies as well as the collection of premiums as necessary Enter and maintain risk information into the various information systems and administer accounts Review, assess and negotiate contract language effectively in order to protect both Swiss Re and our stakeholders' respective interests Prepare proposals, binders, and policies in accordance with and adhering to internal guidelines Continuously update and develop your specific industry knowledge, skills, and expertise and stay ahead of emerging issues About the Team You will be joining a diverse and inclusive team of underwriters that come from a variety of backgrounds and experience within the industry. The team works well in a collaborative environment while fostering and developing independent thought, focusing on developing our property book in Western Region in Canada. About You Educational background: University degree or equivalent with a business or finance component preferred Professional designations, such as Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP), Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP), Certified Risk Manager (CRM) would be an asset Professional Experience: Experience in Property underwriting and knowledge of the market preferably including international business capabilities Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of underwriting tools, applications, and guidelines Strong written and verbal communication skills Service-oriented and entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on execution Positive, solution-focused and pragmatic approach to problem solving Client-centric, proactive style anticipating customer future needs A strong teammate, including ability to work well with teams and groups in multiple offices across organizational boundaries Ability to demonstrate the high level of professionalism and credibility Strong negotiation skills and the ability to cross sell product offerings Strong analytical and logical reasoning capabilities Language skills: Fluency in English, French would be an asset. The estimated base salary range for this new position is $90,000 CAD to $120,000 CAD. The specific base salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.
