Supervisor, Material Recovery Facility (Afternoon Shift) Job Summary: The Supervisor, Material Recovery Facility (MRF) is responsible for supervising the day‑to‑day activities of employees and processes of MRF operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supervise daily operations to ensure efficient processing of recyclable materials. Monitor throughput, material quality, downtime, and equipment utilization. Coordinate staffing and workflow to meet production goals and KPIs. Supervise and manage daily schedules of employees and operations. Champion a strong safety culture by enforcing workplace safety regulations, policies, and procedures. Conduct regular safety meetings, audits, inspections, and incident investigations. Identify and implement process improvements using root cause analysis and data‑driven decision‑making. Supervise, mentor, and train a team of operators, sorters, and maintenance personnel. Lead daily shift huddles and ensure effective communication across all teams. Oversee personnel needs of the department including coaching, training, and evaluating employee performance; provide input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions. Compile and interpret data from daily transactions. Create and submit daily, weekly, and month‑end reports to senior management. Reconcile P card to end of month report. Supervisory Responsibilities The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of non‑supervisory employees, including direct supervision of 10 full‑time employees (office managers, sorters, operators, drivers, and laborers). Qualifications Education & Experience: High School Diploma or GED (accredited). Minimum four (4) years of relevant work experience. Preferred: Experience supervising a team of 10‑15 people in a unionized environment. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Preferred: Weighmaster License, Solid Waste Operators Certificate. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities: Recycling and/or trash collection operational and supervisory experience; experience supervising a team in a unionized environment is an asset.
