Every year CHEO helps more than 500000 children and youth from Eastern Ontario western Quebec Nunavut and Northern Ontario.JOB SUMMARYReporting to the Manager Facilities Operations the Supervisor Facility Electrical & Communications is responsible for overseeing electrical and non-IT communication systems infrastructure and maintenance across CHEOs facilities. The Supervisor ensures the safe reliable and efficient delivery of services that support patient care organizational continuity and compliance. Working in a multidisciplinary environment the Supervisor leads a unionized team of skilled trades staff and coordinates external service providers to deliver planned and corrective maintenance support capital projects and uphold compliance with applicable codes standards and internal policies.Within the Electrical portfolio the Supervisor directs electricians and service providers in the day-to-day operation maintenance and repair of CHEOs electrical and communication infrastructure. This includes distribution systems emergency power lighting structured cabling nurse call monitoring stations and access control. The role supports patient care through safe electrical operations planned shutdowns integration with IT and clinical teams while advancing sustainability and lifecycle equipment replacement from planning through commissioning and validation.This full-time on-site role requires strong leadership a commitment to safety service excellence and a solid understanding of facilities operations and asset management with the ability to adapt to evolving technologies and organizational priorities.POSITION SUMMARYFacility Operations and System Management :Manage daily building systems operations service requests and preventive maintenance (PM) through the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) ensuring safe reliable and efficient performance.Coordinate shutdowns and urgent repairs with stakeholders to minimize patient care impact.Monitor system performance identify issues early and drive improvements in compliance comfort and sustainability.Ensure all operations meet healthcare codes and standards (OBC OHSA ESA CSA TIA TSSA Infection Control).Partner with clinical IT and project teams to align facility operations with organizational needs.Conduct daily walkthroughs of facilities to identify hazards malfunctions and service deficiencies initiating timely corrective actions.Monitor shops and storage areas and maintain inventory of tools parts and materials to support daily operations.Oversee CHEOs electrical distribution emergency power and related building systems including the 13.2 kV Hydro Ottawa feeder 600 V switchgear MCCs over 100 step-down transformers 500 distribution panels lighting systems automated doors and UPS equipment.Maintain and troubleshoot low-voltage and non-IT communication infrastructure including structured cabling nurse call systems monitoring stations access control panels and other devices.Maintenance Reliability and Safety :Implement preventive and corrective maintenance programs to maintain system reliability.Investigate failures perform root cause analysis and apply corrective / preventive actions.Maintain asset records service histories inspections certifications and system drawings in CMMS.Leverage data and analytics to support predictive maintenance and operational optimization.Conduct and support system audits load studies arc flash assessments and grounding / insulation testing.Execute all electrical work and PM programs on electrical and low-voltage communication systems in alignment with applicable codes and standards.Ensure emergency preparedness and business continuity for critical utilities and electrical systems.Contract Service Providers and Project Support :Oversee service providers for maintenance repairs and renovations ensuring compliance with safety standards service levels and codes.Liaise with consultants contractors and stakeholders during projects and shutdowns to minimize disruption.Support capital projects by reviewing designs overseeing commissioning and integrating new systems into operations.Review and provide input on as-built documentation and single-line diagrams for accuracy maintainability and accessibility.Develop scopes of work obtain quotes and manage contract execution.Monitor service provider performance and provide corrective direction where required.Promote sustainability by aligning projects with environmental and lifecycle goals.Leadership and Team Administration :Supervise and coach unionized skilled trades staff in Electrical and Communications.Provide mentorship technical guidance and safety training to build staff capability.Develop and enforce SOPs and standard work practices.Manage staff performance through evaluations feedback and corrective actions.Lead daily toolbox talks and shift handovers to reinforce safety and communicate priorities.Foster a culture of safety accountability collaboration and continuous improvement.QUALIFICATIONSLevel 1 Criminal Record Check and remain compliant (Essential)College diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology Power Systems or Controls with seven (7) years of related experience OR Certificate of qualification (Red Seal) from Skilled Trades Ontario with ten (10) years of related experience. (Essential)Valid drivers license and ability to travel between CHEO community sites as required. (Essential)Five (5) years of hands‑on facilities operations and maintenance experience. (Essential)Hands‑on proficiency in medium and low voltage distribution generators UPS alarm systems lighting communications and cabling. (Essential)Three (3) years in a supervisory role within a unionized environment. (Preferred)Background in healthcare or other large institutional facilities. (Preferred)Strong knowledge of CSA ESA Ontario Building Code Ontario Fire Code and OHSA. (Essential)Ability to coach mentor and build accountability in staff and contractors. (Essential)Strong organizational and time management skills to balance priorities. (Essential)Ability to read and interpret drawings schematics and single‑line diagrams. (Essential)Skilled in coordinating service providers with minimal patient disruption. (Essential)Effective communication and collaboration skills to work across a multi‑disciplinary team. (Essential)Proficiency with CMMS (MRI Angus) Microsoft Office reporting tools (e.g. Power BI) electrical monitoring systems and life safety / communication systems. (Preferred)Demonstrated ability to apply preventive maintenance programs root cause analysis and data analytics to optimize system performance. (Preferred)Ability to support electrical equipment / system upgrades and replacements from planning through handover.
