The Woodstock Police Service Board is currently inviting applications for the position of: Deputy Chief of Police Applications will be accepted until December 12, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. The City of Woodstock is a vibrant and growing community of over 48,000 residents located in the heart of Southwestern Ontario at the crossroads of Highways 401 and 403. The Woodstock Police Service Board is seeking an experienced and professional Deputy Chief of Police to join the Woodstock Police Service (WPS) - a dedicated organization committed to community safety, public trust, and service excellence. The Opportunity: Reporting to the Chief of Police, the Deputy Chief will provide strategic and operational leadership to a complement of 103 sworn officers and 54 civilian members. The Deputy Chief will help advance the Service's mission and values by fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration, while maintaining strong community and stakeholder relationships. Key Responsibilities: Support the Chief of Police in implementing the Board's strategic objectives and operational priorities Provide immediate supervision of the Inspectors, the Human Resources Department, and Information Technology Management and conduct annual evaluations Oversee Quality Assurance and Professional Standards of the Police Service Submit recommendations to the Chief of Police in areas of policy planning and development, standing and routine orders Supervise the administration of the complaints system in accordance with the Community Safety and Policing Act Enforce rules and regulations, policy and procedures, and discipline within the Service Act as legal liaison for civil suits against the Service Ensure compliance with and represent management on the Joint Health and Safety Committee Oversee the activities of Major Crime Investigations and liaison with outside agencies who may be called in to assist Coordinate the promotional processes Qualifications and Competencies: The ideal candidate will bring: Senior leadership experience within a Canadian police service Comprehensive knowledge of modern policing, community safety strategies, and relevant legislation Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills with a reputation for integrity and fairness Demonstrated ability in strategic planning, financial oversight, and organizational performance management Post-secondary education in a related discipline (e.g., criminology, law, public administration, or management) or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is an asset The Ideal Candidate: The successful candidate will be a visionary and inclusive leader who models integrity, professionalism, and compassion.
