Become part of our global network of engineers, scientists, auditors, planners, and environmental specialists, all working together to leave this world better than we found it.ResponsibilitiesData collection and analysis: research using primary and secondary sources; analyze client RFPs, technical specifications, and project requirements to identify key themes and trends aligned with electrical, instrumentation, and piping engineering principles.Technical developments recommendation: identify and recommend improvements to systems, processes, and infrastructure—including design tools and platforms—to enhance engineering deliverables, project communication, and user experience.Technical troubleshooting: manage troubleshooting activities for mechanical and control systems; diagnose performance issues and develop actionable solutions in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.Research: support targeted objectives within a larger program by preparing and validating mechanical and piping designs, specifications, and technical reports.Personal capability building: develop technical and leadership skills through mentoring, peer reviews, and professional development activities.Testing: create test procedures and standards for validating designs and system performance; oversee QA/QC and peer reviews within the mechanical discipline.Project management: lead small- to medium-scale mechanical projects, including budget and schedule development and progress tracking to ensure on-time delivery.Engineering drawings: oversee the creation and review of complex 3D mechanical and piping models and drawings in compliance with standards.Equipment installation: guide installation of critical mechanical systems and major equipment rebuilds, ensuring adherence to design specifications and performance goals.Process design engineering: analyze hydraulic, transient, and stress conditions to specify methods and equipment for efficient operation.Engineering solutions design: design and validate solutions to meet safety, functional, aesthetic, and cost objectives in line with client needs and organizational standards.Installation monitoring and control: monitor installations, troubleshoot issues in real-time, and implement solutions while maintaining safety and compliance.Client & customer management (external): manage communication with external clients, vendors, and contractors to align expectations across stakeholders.Team leadership and development: train and mentor junior engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and feedback to build team capability.Cross-functional coordination: collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to achieve project goals within budget and schedule constraints.EducationBachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalentProfessional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is mandatoryExperienceGeneral experience: Minimum 15+ years of experience in instrumentation and control engineering in municipal water/wastewater and industrial projects (mandatory)Managerial experience: experience supervising junior colleaguesProven experience delivering projects for Ontario municipalities (e.g., City of Toronto, York Region, Halton Region)Strong technical knowledge in: P&IDs and control systems design; industrial networking (Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, Profibus, etc.); fieldbus architecture; process and building automation systems; PLC/HMI/SCADA systems (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Emerson); control panel layout and fabrication; security, access control, CCTV, facility monitoring systemsFamiliarity with Canadian and North American codes and standardsStrong communication skills and ability to coordinate deliverables, timelines, and technical quality within multidisciplinary project teamsAssets (Nice-to-Haves)Experience with programming IEC 61131-3: Ladder, Function Block, Structured Text; Ignition, Wonderware, or GE iFIXOT/IT network infrastructure, wireless/cellular solutions, and cybersecurity practicesInvolvement in HAZOP studies or Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)Familiarity with CAD tools such as AutoCAD and RevitProject experience in transportation, social infrastructure, RNG/biogas facilities, and food processing facilitiesWhy Join UsContribute to community-focused infrastructure projects with real impactCollaborate with a diverse, skilled, and supportive teamAccess mentorship, professional development, and global career growth opportunitiesWork in an inclusive, forward-thinking organization that values innovation, sustainability, and teamworkTake on some of the world’s toughest challenges - with everyone at GHD backing you every step of the way.
