The successful candidate will be offered a tenure‑track or tenured appointment with the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, in accordance with the University of Alberta Academic Faculty Agreement, and will receive a comprehensive benefits package. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on the income scale of the AASUA collective agreement. Location This role is in‑person at North Campus, Edmonton. About the Team The Faculty of Science is internationally recognized for excellence in research and education. Quantum Horizons Alberta (QHA) was established in 2023 as an Alberta‑wide initiative to expand our foundational knowledge of quantum science and to pursue transformational research into the potential of quantum physics. Initiated by a $12‑million gift, QHA is a $25‑million centre of excellence that partners with the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, and the University of Lethbridge to build Alberta’s capacity in quantum research. Description The Department of Physics invites applications for tenure‑track/tenured QHA faculty positions in theoretical quantum physics. All subfields of quantum matter, subatomic physics, or quantum chemistry that overlap with the Quantum Matter focus are welcome. Exceptional candidates at a more senior level will also be considered. Responsibilities Develop an innovative and externally funded research program in theoretical quantum physics. Build an exceptional, independent research program. Supervise graduate students. Teach physics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Qualifications PhD in physics or a related field. Track record of developing an innovative and externally funded research program in theoretical quantum physics. Experience supervising graduate students and teaching physics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Funding & Support QHA provides research support, funding for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, research infrastructure, travel, collaboration across all three QHA nodes, and participation in QHA seminars, summer schools, and conferences.
