We extend our respect to all First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples for their valuable past and present contributions to this land.Job Description:Under the direction of the school principal, the Interpreter is responsible for:providing interpreting and other support services to deaf and/or hard of hearing students;facilitates communication among deaf and/or hard of hearing students and their hearing peers, the classroom teacher and other personnel in the school system;offers tutoring and/or note taking services to deaf and/or hard of hearing students when necessary;participates in team meetings and assists the classroom teacher in fostering positive attitudes toward deafness;and performs other duties, as assigned by the Supervisor.Required Qualifications:Secondary school diploma;a three year Community college diploma in sign language interpreting;1.5 years of related experience;excellent communication skills;the ability to establish a rapport and work with individuals on a one-to-one basis;initiative and commitment;and the ability to work as a team member.Individuals who possess an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.In addition, the following will be considered an asset:Membership in the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI) and the Ontario Interpreter Services (O.I.S.);and NVCI, CPR and First Aid.Annual (or Hourly) Salary: Hourly rate of $36.56 plus 4% vacation pay.
