Senior Cathodic Protection Engineer role at StantecOur Cathodic Protection and AC Mitigation teams are a subset of both our Integrity team and our Energy business unit. The Integrity group is a center of excellence for Stantec, and as such, we work with other Stantec divisions worldwide to assist and design cathodic protection, stray current mitigation and integrity solutions for the Energy, municipal and water resources projects.Your OpportunityWe are currently seeking a Senior Cathodic Protection Engineer to join our Corrosion Prevention team. This is a full-time position with a Hybrid work model. Although the preferred working locations include Edmonton and Calgary for team interactions, other working locations will be considered for the right candidate.Your Key ResponsibilitiesSupport projects dealing with Cathodic Protection (CP), stray current mitigation and engineering assessments related to asset integrityDesign and evaluation of CP systems and stray current mitigation (field and office)To perform third party reviews of reports and designs related to corrosion, cathodic protection, and stray currentDelivery of organized, accurate, timely and cost-effective integrity services that meet client, Stantec and industry/regulatory standardsTechnical report writing, preparation of charts, tables, and design reportsDevelop detailed designs as required and collaborate with drafting personnel to prepare design drawing packagesPerform engineering calculations (resistance, current requirement, current distribution and attenuation, ground potential rise, etc.)Coordinate engineering aspects of installation of AC mitigation and cathodic protection systemsPotential field work consisting of soil resistivity testing, structure potentials, right-of-way evaluations, and constructability assessments for AC mitigation and cathodic protection systemsAssist and consult with other team members on a regular basis for designated projectsContribute to Stantec Specifications, Procedures and Standards as part of Stantec’s continuous improvementBe familiar with the applicable codes and legislation (AMPP/NACE, CSA, API, PHMSA, DOT, etc.)Liaise with and provide technical assistance to other divisions within the companyEstablish and maintain positive client relationshipsCompliance with Stantec’s EH&S program and Quality System, with a focus on safety in the fieldYour Capabilities and CredentialsDemonstrated technical proficiencyStrong interpersonal, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills are essentialAbility to work independently and as part of a larger teamDemonstrated initiative, flexibility, and adaptabilityStrong work ethic and self-motivationExcellent computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Excel, Word, and mapping tools such as Google EarthClass 5 (AB) driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract, as some travel may be requiredStrong technical background and understanding of corrosion, CP, interference, and corrosion, including design, assessment, field data gathering and troubleshootingPrevious experience with AC stray current mitigation is an assetEducation and ExperienceBachelor’s degree or technical diploma in an engineering disciplineBetween 10 to 15 years of Corrosion, CP and/or stray current mitigation work experience, with an emphasis placed on CP experienceMinimum AMPP (NACE) CP2 certification required, NACE CP3 or CP4 certification considered an assetP.Eng. status recognized by APEGA and/or other provinces in CanadaThis description is not a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that may be required of the employee and other duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned or may be changed at any time with or without notice.Stantec is a place where the best and brightest come to build on each other’s talents, do exciting work, and make an impact on the world around us.
