In addition, the Instructional Designer also designs and delivers professional development curriculum and resources to prepare instructors to teach online or in hybrid formats. The Instructional Designer uses knowledge of online and hybrid pedagogy and practices, combined with excellent listening, interpersonal and community‑building skills, to help instructors develop accessible and engaging learner‑centered courses and programs for students.This position works collaboratively and consultatively with instructors, students, departments, and offices across campus as part of a small team within the Teaching and Learning Centre.AS THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT, YOU SHOULD POSSESSA Bachelor's degree in Education or a relevant art, media, or design discipline.Supplementary education or professional development in online pedagogy and instruction (certification preferred).Familiarity with the Instructional Skills Workshop model of faculty development; Facilitator certification is an asset.Minimum 5 years' experience working with instructors to develop, design and troubleshoot courses for online/hybrid delivery, ideally at the post‑secondary level, using a range of pedagogical methodologies and learning technologies.Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Demonstrated knowledge of current educational research and best practices in online pedagogy (e.g., active learning, student engagement, models of assessment, building community, etc.)Demonstrated familiarity with common learning technologies, including an LMS (Moodle experience preferred), video‑conferencing platforms such as Zoom or Kaltura Classroom, video recording and editing tools such as Camtasia, H5P, and collaboration/ whiteboarding tools such as Miro, Mural and Padlet is essential.Experience developing and delivering workshops, classes, and professional development resources for instructors and students at all levels.Experience supervising research and/or teaching assistants.Familiarity with post‑secondary studies in Art and Design and/or a current/past creative practice would be a considerable asset.Knowledge of inclusive teaching principles and equity frameworks would be an asset.Ability to work independently, as well collaboratively as part of a small team.Ability to build positive professional relationships across many areas, from IT specialists to students.Ability to exercise initiative, flexibility, and responsiveness to community needs in developing projects and programs.Excellent listening skills and a willingness to seek and accept feedback in a highly reflexive work environment.Demonstrated sensitivity and a high level of tact when responding to challenging situations.Excellent planning and organizational skills with a proactive approach to assessing current and future needs and developing programs in response, and efficient project management skills.Strong computer skills, including familiarity and fluency with common office applications, as well as Moodle (LMS), Zoom, Camtasia, Miro and/or Mural, and other learning technologies.Ability to use Microsoft Office 365, Google Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud andFamiliarity with HTML, common web hosting platforms and Mailchimp would be an asset.Superior written and verbal communication skills.TYPICAL DUTIESDirectly supports instructors in developing and designing Moodle course sites for online and hybrid courses, in undergraduate and graduate programs as well as non‑credit offerings, drawing on approaches informed by research, theory and best practices in online education.Develops and delivers professional development curriculum, workshops, resources, and/or individual instruction for instructors and staff new to working with Moodle and/or teaching online, including graduate student teaching assistants.In collaboration with instructors and Technicians, works to create more accessible online and hybrid classes.In collaboration with the Teaching and Learning Centre team and other departments, organizes and/or participates in the delivery of professional learning opportunities for instructors, staff and students.Provides individualized or group training and/or training resources in a variety of accessible formats to instructors and staff about new learning technologies.Works with various departments and areas regarding best practices and strategies for using Moodle to deliver training resources.Works closely with the Instructional Technologies Specialist and ITS to research, develop, and customize additions and updates to learning technology infrastructure.Provides guidance to instructors in the effective use of interactive, multimodal, and other online resources to improve learning and engage diverse learning needs.Creates instructional material for staff, instructors, and students in a range of formats, including text, audio and video as required.Ensures instructors and technicians are aware of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and works with the privacy department concerning adherence to the Act while using learning tools.Provides emergency support to instructors via telephone, Zoom and email, including assisting with Moodle disruptions, issues accessing Zoom and course shells, etc.Through research, reading, and participation in professional associations and events, maintains currency in advancements and trends in post‑secondary education, particularly online learning, inclusive teaching, and studio‑based art, media and design education.Mentors, trains and supervises student research and teaching assistants working within the Teaching and Learning Centre on projects related to teaching and learning.In collaboration with other TLC staff members, participates in planning and implementation strategies regarding online and hybrid learning as well as general pedagogical practices.In collaboration with other TLC staff members, creates content for and maintains various communications platforms, including the TLC website and bi‑weekly faculty newsletter.Meets with vendors and communicates relevant product needs and gaps to ITS.Participates in the Learning Technologies Advisory Group at Emily Carr and other committees as
