Electrical Engineer in Training Stantec’s Electrical team is hiring an Electrical Engineer in Training to join our growing team. A background in mining or heavy industrial and processing sectors is preferred. The successful candidate would primarily be supporting mining work, with the opportunity to support projects across all of Energy & Resources. This is a full‑time position. Key Responsibilities Work within a multidisciplinary team of design and engineering professionals to deliver projects and support feasibility studies and detailed engineering projects. Apply engineering knowledge and professional judgement to plan, size, evaluate, select, and specify electrical systems in accordance with relevant codes, standards and industry best practices. Conduct field investigations, carry out detailed planning studies, prepare design calculations, author technical reports, support the development of construction packages (drawings and technical specifications), estimate construction costs, monitor and support construction, participate in commissioning and contribute to business development activities. Work independently with support from team members and maintain a reflective mindset with a willingness to challenge both personal and teamwork. Understand and comply with all health and safety rules and regulations for Stantec and its clients; commit to maintaining zero harm within our operations and for our clients. Interpret drawings, codes, and other materials; work with other engineering disciplines and professionals in project coordination under the direction of a senior engineer/designer. Perform field work as directed by a senior engineer/designer; assist with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions. Use and adhere to Stantec’s quality control guidelines. Design power systems in accordance with applicable codes for surface and underground mining operations, incorporating innovation, optimization, and standardization while considering constructability and economics. Draft basic technical documents and prepare quality reports and calculation packages for project deliverables. Perform calculations to analyze and design individual electrical system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software. Develop and complete power systems analysis models using ETAP, EasyPower and/or SKM. Your Capabilities and Credentials Participate and collaborate in a project team setting and engage in creative and critical thought. Knowledge of applicable design codes and familiarity with Mine Safety and Health Administration Regulations is an asset. Time‑management skills to meet project budget and schedule. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team atmosphere. Support the preparation and coordination of electrical construction drawings, including: Single line diagrams (SLDs) Power and lighting plans Grounding and lightning protection plans Elevations Wiring diagrams Motor control schematics Riser diagrams Installation details Schedules (panel schedules, cable schedules, etc.) Willingness to travel to client sites or other Stantec offices (~10% travel). Knowledge of and ability to use standard computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and Revit (considered an asset). Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university. Co‑op/Internship experience (considered an asset). 0–4 years of engineering, design, and construction experience in heavy industry, particularly surface or underground mining. Feeling Energized Pay Transparency In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
