StructureCraft enjoys pushing the boundaries in complex geometry, digital fabrication, and in material testing and research, and our work in this regard has been recognized internationally, including numerous awards for innovation in timber engineering and construction.The StructureCraft computational design team leads the design development of our freeform projects from conceptual design to prefabrication and installation. The team is a critical component within our complex geometry projects, applying advanced 3D modeling tools to optimize complex geometries for design intent, structural optimization, and digital fabrication. These digital models are then transformed into human and machine-readable information for fabrication and installation. Research and continuing education are also fundamental to the team so we can continue to push the boundaries in complex geometry, digital fabrication, and material testing and research.Your Responsibilities3D modeling from the conceptual phase through to fabrication, assemblies, and installationDesign for fabrication – we build everything we design, so prototyping and close interaction with shop floor and CNC machines is criticalCreation of computer programs, scripts, and algorithms to automate and enable the production of complex 3D geometry and modelsCreation of fabrication drawings and CNC files for complex elementsWorking with fabrication crews and our CNC machines to ensure models have translated accurately into human- and machine-readable informationProduction of detailed drawings for approval, engineering, and productionStandardization of connections, fasteners & fabrication techniques to improve production efficiencyContinual improvement of design & drafting process to improve efficiency and reduce design cycle timesManage and prioritize tasks to meet scheduled deadlinesMaintain and grow construction industry technical knowledgePosition RequirementsA bachelors or masters’ degree in architecture or engineeringMinimum 5 years experience 3D modeling geometrically complex structures in architectural, structural, or industrial design, including minimum 5 years 3D modeling and scripting experience in the Rhino 3D and Grasshopper environments.Preferred 5 years of experience computer programming in C#, VB.net, Python, or equivalent in a working environment. The ability to write object-oriented programs would be an asset, as well as devising algorithms to solve complex geometrical problems on real construction projects.Demonstrated experience in digital fabrication through built projects, showing an understanding of design, modeling, detailing, CNC machining, and assembly techniques required to construct complex formsProficient in using Rhino and Grasshopper with significant experience using algorithmic modeling and computational design techniques on building structuresExperience with web programming (e.g. Node.JS, WebGL, etc) would be an assetGreat understanding of design and construction sequence conceptsExperience organizing design work and managing shifting prioritiesExperience interfacing with CNC machines (G-code, BTL, BVX file generation) would be an assetEnglish language is required.Who will you be working with?You will be working with many of our staff, but reporting to our 3D Design & Drafting Manager, Adrian Hobden.When will you start?In the next 3 monthsPosition Terms & ConditionsEmployment Type: Permanent, full-time positionHours per week: 40 hoursLanguage of work: EnglishSalary Range for this position: $83 – $95K.Benefits: We offer a benefits package that includes 3 weeks vacation, extended medical, life insurance, disability insurance, and a matching RRSP program after 2 years employment.Send your application including resume and portfolio in confidence to: #J-18808-Ljbffr
