Please submit your resume and cover letter in one file (PDF or Word) and upload using only the ‘Resume’ feature within the application prior to 11:59 pm on August 22, 2025.How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:The Arborist Technician position is responsible for supporting the daily technical coordination of the worksite and delivery of assigned arboricultural, forest management, forest health, hazard maintenance, forest restoration and invasive species projects and programs. This position is to act as the technical subject matter expert for field arboricultural, tree hazard and tree felling practices and approaches.Major Responsibilities:Collaborates with the Forestry project teams to ensure compliance with plan design, health and safety and other regulatory requirementsSafely operates and maintains arboricultural and forestry equipment and materialsCompletes site documentation to support Forestry and other Restoration and Resource Management project/programs including but not limited to on-site implementation, progress tracking, safety, cost ledgers, and other site related record keepingLeads Forestry staff with the technical aspects and training of field arboricultural, tree hazard and tree felling practices and approachesMeets with internal and external stakeholders as required for Forest and Restoration project specific collaborationReports on any projected variances from schedules and budgets; proposes potential mitigation to supervisor or project manager as appropriateSchedules the maintenance of assigned equipment, collaborating with Fleet and Equipment management staff as requiredParticipates in daily safety meetings including tailgate meetings, hazard identification and emergency planningWhat will you need to succeed:Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)Post-secondary diploma or degree in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, or a related fieldCertified Arborist with the International Society of ArboricultureValid Chainsaw Training CertificateExperience2.5+ years of experience in arboriculture, forestry, forest management, tree hazard management, or forest stewardship/woodlot managementKnowledge/Skill/Ability - CompetenciesDemonstrated ability to understand, interpret and apply forestry management plans, drawings, details and specificationsUnderstanding of arboriculture tree climbing skills and aerial rescue techniquesDemonstrated high level of technical ability in the safe operation and maintenance of all vehicles and equipment related to Arboricultural Services, in particular as primary climber and rescue climbingCompetence in forest inventory and herbicide / pesticide use and applicationUnderstanding and application of basic mathematical functions (e.g., adding, subtracting, measuring, money computation)Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise communication in both non-emergency and emergency situationsDemonstrated ability to proactively identify problems in a timely manner, seeking the appropriate level of support to solve issuesKnowledge of best management practices, and up-to-date knowledge of mitigation and controls, as well as safe work proceduresKnowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, related Regulations and legislationWhat TRCA has to offer you:As part of a progressive team you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact to preserving and protecting nature, while maintaining a balance between the natural environment and built environment.
