OverviewIntroduction: As Ontario’s largest fleet of combined cycle turbine gas plants, Atura Power plays a key role in the province’s electricity system and diverse generation supply. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Electrical Instrumentation and Controls (EIC) Maintenance Technician will collaborate with Managers, Engineers, Operations, and Maintenance personnel to safely support plant operations, troubleshoot equipment, perform corrective and preventative maintenance activities, as well as supervise contractual resources. This position requires the skills to help develop, manage, and assess work plans to enable the effective completion of work activities across the work management system, executed safely, effectively, on time and according to its priority. The EIC technician is represented by the Power Workers Union and is day shift based, during plant downtime (outages) off hours work may be required.ResponsibilitiesTypical duties and responsibilities include :Perform safe work practices in line with company and OHSA policies and proceduresPrioritize and complete preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance on various instrumentation, controls (DCS), electrical and electronic equipment and PLC systemsReporting of work completed within the site CMMS (which is Maximo); this includes recording all relevant information for work order completion, updating work status, signing out parts / materials, and running reportsPerform contractor supervisory (active control) duties, which include the management and coordination of contractors and safe work proceduresScope, plan, and execute plant maintenance outagesApply knowledge and skills to troubleshoot steam, water and gas control and monitoring equipment, including motors, valves, actuators, and associated instrumentationHave / acquire working knowledge of gas and / or steam turbines, generators and associated equipment and controlsDirectly support procurement and inventory management; from requesting quotes, to entering PosDevelop, implement, and improve Maintenance Plans and Procedures for assigned equipment areas Demonstrate basic knowledge and understanding of various industrial safety systems and functions (Lock out / Tag out, confined space, first aid, etc.)Education and ExperienceCompletion of a minimum two-year college diploma program in instrumentation and control is required.447A instrumentation and controls trade ticket is preferredJourneyman electricians holding a 442A or 309 trade ticket(s) is considered an assetMinimum five (5) years of related experience in instrumentation and controls is requiredProven experience in an electrical power facility is preferredConsideration will be given to various combinations of experience, education, and trainingWill consider 4th or 5th year apprenticesA Technician’s / Technologist Diploma in Electrical / Electronic / Controls Engineering is considered an assetPosition QualificationsAdvanced understanding of the fundamental principles of industrial systems, including electrical, instrumentation, controls, and power generation systemsDemonstrate the principles and components used to control level, pressure, flow, temperature, vibration, velocity and torque.Working knowledge of how a Combine Cycle Power Plant is put together to safely and economically generate electricity. Demonstrate the Operating Philosophy of Gas Turbines, Compressors, Heat Recovery Boilers and Steam Turbines and how they are monitored, controlled, protected and maintained.Experience in troubleshooting plant equipment failures under pressureExperience with DeltaV, Mark VIe or similar systems is highly desirableExperience with PLC troubleshooting and programmingComputer literacy : MS Office Suite Programs and CMMSTeam player with a positive attitudeExcellent written and verbal communication skillsDemonstrate prioritization skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities, including HVAC systems and components, access control system and components, video surveillance system and components, control network systems and componentsDetail oriented with good organizational and planning skillsAbility to execute work as part of a team or independentlyWillingness to work extended hours, as required, based on operational and business requirements, especially during maintenance outages or emergency call outsBe able to meet the physical requirements of the role :Lift 50 poundsAscend / descend 100+ stairs multiple times during a shiftClimb laddersWorking at height and / or in confined spacesThis position requires candidates to :Have and maintain a valid G Driver's licenseSuccessfully complete a criminal record check.Experience with Maximo and SharePoint are considered an assetsAdditional certifications considered an asset (ie.
