The Commercial Lines Underwriting Manager plays a pivotal role in executing the organization’s underwriting strategy and ensuring consistent adherence to underwriting policies, procedures, and processes. This role is essential in supporting business growth by effectively managing underwriting operations and related projects across the region. The Commercial Lines Underwriting Manager will also be responsible for technical training and development, as well as providing strong people leadership to the underwriting team. This includes overseeing performance appraisals, offering ongoing coaching and mentoring, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional excellence. Responsibilities Manage and monitor the performance and competency of the underwriters. Provide input relating to merit adjustments and individual bonus. Manage work-flow and work-load distribution. Establish and deliver flexible, and specialized underwriting solutions to customers. Work collaboratively with brokers to provide underwriting, risk control and pricing solutions which assist in ensuring successful outcomes. Manage, direct and monitor the effective underwriting and negotiating of key accounts. Ensure customer service standards are met. Ensure adherence to the requirements of the underwriting audit process, to ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and risk appetite through completion of the self-audit process. Build and maintain effective relationships with brokers. Promote the customer-focused approach to customer and organizations within the community. Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of the marketplace, including competitors, in terms of underwriting strategy, products, coverage, risk appetite and capacity / limits. Manage key accounts including negotiation, underwriting, customer relationships, and risk control initiatives. Experience required University degree or College diploma. 10+ years insurance experience (commercial property and casualty). 2+ years Underwriting Leadership experience with a technical focus. Experience in and exposure to complex P&C underwriting, product development, wording development and rate building and pricing strategy is required. What is being offered?
