We are seeking an experienced and motivated Trades Improver 2 (Construction) to join our Engineering Operations Division. This position reports to the Superintendent, Engineering Operations and involves semi‑skilled manual work in the maintenance and construction of roads and utilities. Key Responsibilities Assists the Chargehand with tasks assigned to crews. Prepares for sidewalk installation and paving, lays and aligns pipes for water, sewer, and storm systems according to grade and specifications. Prepares trenches and bedding for installation and backfills trenches after pipe installation. Inspects pipes for defects, ensures proper sealing and jointing, operates and maintains hand tools and small equipment safely, and follows all safety procedures. When the Chargehand is absent, acts as point of contact for the crew and site management: assigns daily tasks based on project priorities, monitors work quality and compliance with specifications and safety standards, reports progress and issues to the site supervisor, and ensures proper documentation of completed work and any plan changes. Qualifications & Experience Considerable knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in public works operations. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required. Strong understanding of safety procedures and compliance standards. Previous construction‑related and supervisory experience. Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by technical courses related to the work. EOCP Water Distribution System Operator Certification level 1 and Wastewater Collection System Operator Certification level 1 are desirable. Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s license required. Compensation and Hours Rate of Pay: $35.98 per hour (2024 C.U.P.E. rates) Hours of Work: 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday) Our comprehensive benefits package is included.
