Machinist (SRI) – Physical Sciences – Regular Full‑time 2025‑15592 Sunnybrook Research Institute is a Canada‑wide research enterprise within Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, a teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. In 2025, the Focused Ultrasound Laboratory is seeking a Machinist to support research fabrication and hardware design. Overview The role involves fabrication, machining, and design of tools and mechanical devices for research and production. It provides exposure to manual machining, CNC machining, additive manufacturing, and rapid prototyping in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment focused on non‑invasive, image‑guided ultrasound technology. Summary of Duties Fabrication and design of tools and mechanical devices for research and development. Fabrication and design of production tooling. Use of manual machining, CNC machining, and additive manufacturing technologies for prototypes and short‑run production. Streamlining fabrication processes for established hardware. Qualifications Graduate of a 2‑ or 3‑year Mechanical Engineering Technician/Technologist Program. Production experience in short‑run and prototyping environments is a benefit. Familiarity with rapid prototyping technologies is an asset. Excellent written communication, blueprint reading, and strong attention to detail. Apprentice experience or willingness to pursue an apprenticeship in Machinist or Tool and Die trades will be given higher consideration. Strong manual machining skills; candidates lacking machining skills will not be considered. SolidWorks and MasterCam proficiency is an asset.
