Overview Kamloops Aboriginal Friendship Society (KAFS) was established in 1972 and is a charitable organization with a status free open-door policy. KAFS is dedicated to empowering the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities of Kamloops and surrounding areas. KAFS provides culturally appropriate programs and inclusive services that meet the needs of urban Indigenous people to become healthier, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. The Opportunity: KAFS is recruiting a qualified and experienced Ending Sexualized Violence Against Indigenous Women Facilitator to join their team. Under the Supervision of the General Manager, the Ending Sexualized Violence Against Indigenous Women Facilitator will raise awareness in the Kamloops area about the unacceptable levels of sexualized violence against Indigenous women. The facilitator will review and familiarize themselves on the current state of research completed on the subject matter. With that research, the individual will develop a number of workshops to be delivered to key community stakeholders. An emphasis in the workshops will be that service providers/systems need to be aware of their own colonization and accept the challenge to discuss ways to decolonize. The individual needs to also be a recognized knowledge keeper and have lived experience. A day in the life – role and responsibilities: Be a skilled communicator and facilitator and be able to deliver the call “to decolonize” in a safe environment. Develop and deliver workshops to key community stakeholders. Integrate research on gender-based violence, conscious racial bias, racism and white supremacy, and domestic violence. Stay on top of current data and present current statistics to stakeholders. Be unapologetic and present Indigenous values, world views and promote Indigenous protocols and ceremonies. Articulate the many barriers that Indigenous women face in accessing support and services. Prepare reports as requested. Other duties, as assigned by management. Requirements – what you bring to KAFS: Bachelor’s degree in social work, Indigenous studies, women’s studies, or a related field is an asset. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, with preference given to individuals who have direct experience with support services and resources related to domestic violence. An understanding of government and non-profit services (example – knowledge of safe houses and applicable legislation). Knowledge of the system with response to domestic violence and legislation, basic understanding of the family law system. Preference will be given to applicants of Aboriginal ancestry as per section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code #J-18808-Ljbffr
