This role is based at our corporate headquarters in Calgary, AB.Purpose of the positionThe Director Corporate Reporting leads a team responsible for month-end close and consolidation of financial results, management reporting of consolidated results, external financial reporting and legal entity compliance reporting, and managing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.Position accountabilitiesOversee monthly close and consolidationOversee preparation of external consolidated financial reports of CPKC on Forms 8-K/10-Q/10-KReview entity financial statements and oversee subsidiary audits for tax and regulatory complianceOversee delegation of Journal Entry Procedure policy and ensure period journal entry testing procedures are followed for control purposesOversee the account reconciliation process and ensure that account reconciliation policy and procedures are followedReview executive reports on financial results, including operating metrics, business drivers and variance explanations (monthly flash report and quarterly earnings per share and operating ratio waterfall with supporting schedules)Coordinate processes and scheduling with internal stakeholders, contributors and external auditorsLead development and implementation of team projects and initiatives including quarter-end and year-end external and management reporting, process documentation, data management and system optimization related to Corporate ReportingRecommend reporting solutions addressing significant financial transactions and track their timely implementationLead research and analysis of technical literature related to emerging ESG disclosure requirements, provide advice and recommendations on optionsSupervise, train and mentor staff with duties related to corporate reportingMaintain and manage exemplary relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including external auditors, internal controls, regulatory, legal, accounting and finance, tax, investor relations, and communications & mediaEnsure financial reporting and disclosures comply with US GAAP and securities regulations; ensure underlying processes comply with internal controls/SOX requirementsAddress queries from auditors and internal reviewersPosition requirementsAccounting designation (CPA or CA) and bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or related field10+ years of public company external reporting or audit and SEC reporting is desirableMinimum 5 years of leadership experienceKnowledge of accounting standards and regulatory requirements for public companiesStrong attention to detail and accuracyStrong leadership, analytical, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skillsAbility to set and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environmentExcellent verbal and written communication skillsWhat CPKC has to offerFlexible and competitive benefits packageCompetitive company pension and/or retirement plansEmployee Share Purchase PlanPerformance Incentive PlanAnnual Fitness SubsidyPart-time Studies ProgramPre-employment requirementsCriminal history checkEducation verificationProfessional referencesBecoming a railroaderAs an employee with a North American presence, the location of your position may be changed based on organizational requirements.Culture of inclusionCPKC is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer in the U.S. and an employment equity employer in Canada.
