OverviewJoin to apply for the Justice Tribunal Member role at Métis Nation within Alberta. The Judicial Tribunal is an impartial body established by the Judicial Branch Act, 2023, with six members representing the five territories and a chairperson.LocationThe successful candidate must reside within the Battle River Territory and be ordinarily a resident there throughout the term.Role DescriptionJudicial Tribunal members actively and impartially exercise their duties and functions under the Constitution and Otipemisiwak Métis Government Law. They decide and prescribe the resolution of disputes regarding citizenship in the Métis Nation, election of leadership, interpretation of the Constitution, and various legal matters as outlined in the Act.ResponsibilitiesMake ethical and impartial decisions while ensuring transparency and accountability.Prescribe resolutions for disputes covering citizenship, leadership elections, constitutional interpretation, governance and policy matters, and any contraventions of the Constitution.Attend scheduled meetings in person or remotely, as required, and travel throughout Alberta when necessary.Maintain confidentiality and uphold high ethical standards.Collaborate with other Tribunal members and external experts to reach fair outcomes.QualificationsCitizen of the Métis Nation within Alberta.Minimum age of 25 at time of appointment.No conviction of an indictable offence under the Criminal Code without proper pardon or record suspension.Demonstrated fair‑mindedness and wisdom in decision‑making.Not hold an elected position within the Otipemisiwak Métis Government.Additional RequirementsPosition is mostly remote with occasional in‑person attendance.Ability to travel across Alberta.Access to reliable transportation.Undergo a criminal record check.What We OfferHonoraria‑based remuneration and travel‑related expenses.Opportunity to serve on the largest Indigenous Government in Canada.Meaningful work within a supportive environment that values Indigenous perspectives.How to ApplyApply online at http://albertametis.com/careers/.
