Environmental Research Technologist Join to apply for the Environmental Research Technologist role at Government of Yukon. Overview This is a full‑time, permanent position working 75 hours bi‑weekly. The role is part of the Energy, Mines and Resources department and supports the Compliance, Monitoring and Inspections Branch, providing enforcement services for natural resource development activities in the territory. The general purpose of the position is to provide ongoing environmental monitoring at resource development sites, including collecting water samples, analyzing water quality, and preparing monitoring reports. Responsibilities • Provide environmental monitoring at resource development sites; collect water samples and other field data. • Input and analyze water quality information. • Write water quality and environmental monitoring reports. • Assist with field investigations related to compliance monitoring. Essential Qualifications Degree or Diploma from a recognized university in Physical Sciences, Engineering, Biological Sciences, or a related field. Experience collecting water samples in the field from resource development sites. Experience inputting and analyzing water quality information. Experience writing water quality and/or environmental monitoring reports. Experience assisting with field investigations related to compliance monitoring (asset). Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability Ability to analyze information and develop and communicate recommendations. Ability to prioritize effectively, set and meet deadlines, and adapt to change. Effective problem‑solving skills and initiative to develop solutions. Strategic advice on environmental monitoring approaches and methods. Positive collaborative working relationships within a team. Understanding of water quality objectives, natural resource management, and sustainable development. Well‑developed interpersonal, writing and organizational skills. Dependability and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a results‑driven environment. Travel and Field Work Willingness and ability to work in, and travel to, Yukon communities in all seasons, approximately 10–15 times a year (2 to 14 days) by aircraft or vehicle. Occasional field work in all seasons and terrain types, often remote settings, working longer days and using various vehicle types such as trucks, all‑terrain vehicles, helicopters, boats etc. Use of personal protective equipment. Conditions of Employment Valid Class 5 driver’s license. Pre‑employment and periodic medical clearance.
