Contract: 3 months in Jasper The Locomotive Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of VIA Rail passengers and crew, enabling VIA to meet its scheduled operations and provide excellent customer service. This safety‑critical position entails varying schedules, being away from home for extended periods, working under pressure, and dealing with stressful factors within the guidelines of the Railway Safety Act of Canada, the Canadian Railway Operating Rules, and VIA Rail’s special instructions. Qualifications & Competencies Qualified Locomotive Engineer Very good spoken and written communication skills in English Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) qualified Operating experience will be evaluated and considered throughout the selection process No criminal record Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position Good technical and mechanical aptitudes Track experience on the subdivisions for the position is a definite asset Safety orientation, rigor and attention to detail Decision making and problem solving abilities Ability to work under pressureAccountability Customer Focus Flexibility, adaptability and a positive attitude toward change Teamwork and cooperation At VIA Rail, we are proud to be an employment‑equity employer and we strive to form teams that reflect the diversity of Canadian society.
