Be part of our story. Come grow with us Position Overview We are hiring a Crime Prevention Unit Coordinator. This role provides essential clerical and volunteer coordination support to the RCMP Community Policing Unit. This role is responsible for recruiting, training, and motivating volunteers, organizing and implementing crime prevention programs, and providing operational and administrative support. The successful candidate exercises independent judgment within established guidelines and ensures the effective delivery of community policing and office support services. Volunteer Coordination Recruit, interview, and select volunteers; provide orientation, training, and ongoing guidance; assign, monitor, and evaluate volunteer activities. Program Management Organize and implement community-based crime prevention programs such as Block Watch, Block Parent, Citizens on Patrol, and Speed Patrol. Administrative Support Develop and maintain office systems, files, and records; manage equipment and supplies; prepare correspondence, reports, and newsletters; respond to information requests. System Operations Operate CPIC, PRIME, LEIP, and PIRS systems to conduct criminal record checks and prepare criminal activity reports. Community Engagement Liaise with community agencies, government bodies, police members, and the public; promote participation in community policing programs; organize and participate in special events; represent the unit on committees. Public Interaction Intake criminal and complaint reports, interview complainants, and record details accurately in appropriate systems. Desirable Training and Experience Completion of the 12th school grade including or supplemented by courses in commercial subjects and volunteer coordination, plus sound related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Considerable knowledge of the functions, regulations, rules and procedures related to the work. Considerable knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, including record-keeping, and computer applications related to the work. Sound knowledge of the methods and practices used in motivating, directing and assessing volunteers. Working knowledge of the needs of various related community groups, businesses, organizations and individuals. Ability to organize and implement a variety of community-based crime prevention activities utilizing volunteers. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts, promote program activities, and explain program rules, regulations and procedures. Ability to develop and implement office methods and procedures and to prepare and maintain a variety of correspondence, records, reports and other materials related to the work. Licenses, Certificates and Registrations Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia. Ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP security clearance. Hours of Work Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, will be required from time to time to support community events. Hours of work are governed by Schedule “B” (M) - based on article 12.01 which may, at the discretion of the Commanding officer of the R.C.M.P. or his/her duly appointed representative, work any seven (7) hour between the hours of 7:00 am and 12:00 midnight, Monday to Sunday, inclusive, with shift differential as per Article 13.10. When shifts are changed, or positions hired, employees in the positions will be given shift preference on the basis of seniority. Additional Information We are looking for an individual who is familiar with working with volunteers, has great communication skills, and can motivate and inspire. In addition, the ideal candidate should be comfortable with developing and delivering presentations to a variety of stakeholder groups within the community.
