The Institute for Mental Health Policy Research (IMHPR), Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), is seeking a full-time, contract (12 months) Driving Simulator Research Manager to support IMHPR. This role will report directly to the Director, IMHPR Administration. The candidate will manage and support a number of the operational and project management needs of the Driving Simulator Lab, which includes but is not limited to: financial, personnel, administrative activities and projects responsibilities. The successful candidate will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements.

In this role you will:

  • Facilitate the day-to-day operations of the Driving Simulator Lab as a key priority.
  • Be responsible for on-site needs and physical space and safety needs of the Driving Simulator lab as required.
  • Liaise as needed with other departments such as Finance, IT, Communications, Procurement, People and Experience, Legal, Research Ethics Board and Research Operations, Quality Assurance, Clinical Trials unit and other Services & Support (ROSS).
  • Provide assistance to the IMHPR Driving Simulator Lab research operations and activities, including epidemiological and clinical research.
  • Help facilitate and further IMHPR knowledge translation and cross collaboration initiatives in the area of Driving Simulator research.
  • Lead the recruitment, on boarding and training of personnel and trainees as required
  • Train and acclimate new team members to the Driving Simulator Lab policies and procedures.
  • Help maintain the safety of the physical lab via fire safety and physical space inspections.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the use and booking of shared project resources as required.
  • Ensure the facilitation and maintenance of the institutional equipment and assets as required.
  • Work with the Driving Lab Research Method Specialist/ Simulator programmer, external vendors and various Project Investigators to ensure the day-to-day needs and core assets are supported and project deliverables are on target.
  • Support the project budget planning process for the Driving Simulator Lab and assist in tracking of actuals for grant-funded accounts as required.
  • Support and facilitate communications on behalf of the Driving Simulator Lab
  • Engage inter-organizational managers and external suppliers concerning project activities, operational decisions, scheduling requirements or contractual clarifications.
  • Support and facilitate ethical and regulatory compliance of CAMH and Research policies, including sensitive and confidential priorities.
  • Support a work environment that embraces diversity and is free of harassment and discrimination.
    • Master’s degree in business or research related discipline from a recognized institution.
    • 3 years relevant experience in a driving lab or similar Simulator research related environment is required.
    • Demonstrated experience in a grant based research environment is required.
    • Demonstrated experience using Smoking Lab study equipment and procedures, for both tobacco and cannabis.
    • Business and/or financial experience (e.g. reading financial reports and preparing budgets)
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, tact, and discretion and a genuine interest in supporting scientific research.
    • Advanced-level knowledge of MS Office Suite of programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and other knowledge translation and project management software and tools such as REDCAP.
    • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, coordinate and oversee various complex projects.
    • Valid driver’s licence with very good driving record.
    • Experience and knowledge regarding research approaches and protocols, including epidemiological and clinical trial research.
    • Ability to handle a high volume of diverse projects simultaneously.
    • Knowledge of risk management practices and procedures in a lab environment.
    • Capable of original thinking and able to initiate ideas to move projects forward.
    • Excellent skills in the use of databases, spreadsheets, word-processing and other applications
    • Demonstrated experience with grants submissions, publication experience and literature review experience is an asset.
    • Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is an asset

    Please Note:This full-time, contract (12 months) position is NOT part of any Bargaining Unit.
    CAMH is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and is a teaching hospital and research institute. As a CAMH employee, you will be expected to actively support CAMH’s teaching and research activities, in addition to supporting the clinical work of the hospital.
