As a pivotal leader in our engineering department, you will spearhead the design, development, and implementation of advanced Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Your extensive expertise in high-power electrical systems, lithium-ion battery technology, and team leadership will be crucial in driving our projects and our team to success.The RoleSalary: $130,000 - $180,000 per year3 weeks paid vacation plus 1 week off between Christmas and New Year'sExtended health, dental, and vision benefits planRRSP matchingRegular company socials, events and weekly fitness and yogaFree electric vehicle chargingOpen and collaborative company cultureResponsibilities and DutiesOversee and lead the electrical design and development of all BESS components and systems, including integrating battery management systems (BMS), power conversion systems (PCS), and grid interconnection systems.Set the technical direction and strategy for the electrical engineering team, ensuring alignment with overall product and company goals.Manage, mentor, and develop a team of Senior and Junior Electrical Engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and excellence.Lead project planning, resource allocation, and scheduling for the electrical engineering team to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.Direct the architectural design and implementation of high-power systems, including the design of electrical panels, and the selection and integration of circuit breakers, disconnects, transformers, and busbars for utility-scale applications.Direct the creation and approval of detailed wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, wire harness diagrams, and site integration diagrams.Drive cross-functional collaboration with mechanical, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems into the overall BESS architecture.Lead the strategic identification, evaluation, and management of new and existing suppliers to optimize product cost, function, and lead times.Oversee the creation, review, and revision of FMEA, BOM, manufacturing, and assembly drawings to ensure quality and accuracy.Establish and enforce best practices for engineering documentation, including SOPs, design review presentations, design journals, and quality documentation.Guide critical architectural design decisions based on external client requirements and long-term product roadmaps.Ensure all electrical designs and documentation meet the requirements for UL product certification, including UL1973, UL9540, and UL9540A.The CandidateWe’re looking for individuals with the following traits, skills, and experiences:Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.12+ years of experience in the design and development of complex electrical systems, with exposure to BESS, renewable energy, or lithium-ion battery applications.Direct experience designing and developing high-power systems (600V+/1000V+), including electrical panels, circuit protection, busbars, and transformers.3+ years of demonstrated experience in a leadership or management role, successfully leading and mentoring engineering teams.Expert proficiency in design software for electrical design of battery systems, power electronics, and control systems.Proven track record of managing projects from concept to completion and leading products through certification processes.Be part of a mission-driven company focused on creating sustainable energy solutions and making a positive impact on the world.Collaborate closely with passionate co-founders and a team committed to innovation and excellence.Contribute to building and scaling a company from the ground up, where your work will have a direct and meaningful impact.Enjoy a dynamic, fast-paced work environment where every day brings new challenges and opportunities to grow.Thrive in a workplace that values collaboration, wellness, and celebrating successes, with regular company socials, fitness sessions, and more.About Moment EnergyMoment Energy is a cleantech startup with a team of passionate innovators revolutionizing the energy storage industry.
