Supports strategic planning efforts addressing stewardship responsibilities and long-term sustainability of the University’s campus, facilities and infrastructure and maximizing opportunities for efficient delivery of campus services and optimal investments in University-wide infrastructure.Maintenance and repair of oil and gas fired boilers, chillers, water softeners and high purity water treatment systems, air compressors, ammonia based refrigeration units and related auxiliary equipment.Operating and monitoring the utility plants, building automation, fire systems and elevator services.Performing maintenance and repairs as required to keep equipment such as pumps, air compressors, water softeners and deionizers, ammonia-based refrigeration units, chillers and cooling tower systems operating in a safe and efficient manner.Inspection and maintenance of building HVAC, mechanical and plumbing system components.Responding to emergency calls of various types such as fire alarms.Reports to the Shift Engineer in the absence of the Chief Stationary Engineer.In the absence of a Stationary Engineer 2nd Class, may be temporarily assigned as Shift Engineer and performs duties and responsibilities applicable to such assignment.Responsible for ensuring University facilities and departmental activities are compliant with all applicable legislation, regulations, codes and standards related to facilities operations as well as occupational health and environmental safety. Active in health and safety and incident prevention by adhering to departmental policy, procedures and safe work practices required by the University health, safety and environment management system (HSEMS), and in accordance with relevant health and safety legislation, developing and enhancing a safety culture among support staff.Experience in the operation and maintenance of oil and gas fired boilers, chillers, water softeners, air compressors and ammonia based refrigeration units and related auxiliary equipment.Must be familiar with the operation of boiler control and building automation systems.Must maintain a valid Ontario class 'G' driver's license or equivalent.
