Through our direct services, community partnerships, advocacy, research, and publications.DABC has established a national non-profit organization, Disability Alliance Canada (DAC), to extend our mission to people with disabilities across Canada. DAC offers direct services and support to help individuals across Canada access federal disability benefits and tax filing services.Job DescriptionDAC is seeking an experienced tax preparer who is passionate about community work to join our team. The Tax Advocate will work one‑on‑one to assist people with disabilities with their income taxes and raise awareness about the program through strategic partnership and community outreach. The successful candidate will also handle other administrative responsibilities related to the program’s operations, including developing and conducting workshops and participating in team meetings and training as needed.Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesPrepare and file accurate tax returns for current and previous years in compliance with CRA standardsLiaise with clients and the CRA on specific issues related to personal taxesManage multiple client files simultaneouslyReport any questions or concerns to the DirectorCompile and organize client recordsAttend trainings to further develop accounting and taxation knowledge as part of an ongoing professional development programHave more than 2 years of proven experience using income tax preparation software (e.g., UFile) to prepare income tax returnsPossess strong knowledge of provincial, territorial, and federal tax laws, policies, and programsBe able to work effectively with people with disabilitiesPossess a four‑year undergraduate degree or equivalent work experienceMeet the requirements to be a tax filer through CRA’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Preparation (CVITP) programBe self‑motivated, adaptable, and able to work effectively with a teamBe detail‑oriented and have excellent organizational skillsHave strong verbal and written communication skillsUnderstand the importance of preserving the confidentiality of sensitive client informationBe computer literate and proficient with word‑processing software, including the Microsoft Office SuiteBe comfortable working in the office and remotelyBe available for occasional travel to communities across CanadaDesired AssetsVolunteer or coordination experience with the Canadian Revenue Agency’s CVITP ProgramWorking knowledge of income tax programs for people with disabilities including the Disability Tax Credit, Canada caregiver amount and other deductionsCompletion of an accounting or tax certificate or diploma/degreeBenefits15 days of paid vacation annually18 days of paid sick leave annually100% of the cost of extended health and dental care benefit premiums2 weeks of paid time off during DAC’s annual holiday office closure in DecemberEmployee wellness spending accountWorking hours and locationThis position is full‑time for 5 days per week at 8 hours a day (including 1 hour as a paid lunch break).
