Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager at TC Transcontinental Flexstar, the Purchaser is responsible for providing support to Manufacturing, Customer Service and Administration to ensure all goods and services meet or exceed Transcontinental standards and schedules and to ensure accurate procurement of parts/supplies/services are ordered and received in an efficient, cost‑effective manner, and to keep abreast of all new supplies, services and equipment on the market. Responsibilities Communicate/coordinate with all departments regarding plant purchase requisitions; review, authorize, and/or provide recommendations. Analyze and evaluate supplier bids, tenders, proposals, quotations; negotiate prices and delivery conditions. Purchase goods, materials, supplies, and services that meet TC Transcontinental’s expectations on standards of price, quality, timing, and reliability of supply. Ensure that the delivery of goods and administration of services is completed as per contractual agreement. Communicate with vendors/suppliers to resolve issues on delivery timelines or supply quality. Manage the process on resolving supplier claims and receiving credit or compensation for materials or services that were deemed to have not met quality or delivery standards. Coordinate with suppliers and the logistics team returns or repairs of materials, parts, or equipment. Work with accounting on timely processing and payment of invoices; investigate and address price or quantity discrepancies between purchase orders and invoices. Support and maintain accuracy of the purchasing and inventory control systems for various departments. Ensure consumable items and services are available as needed to avoid downtime and operational delays (VMI, min/max, etc.). Continuous review of supplier base; source new suppliers for goods and services as required. Perform supplier visits and audits (with related internal departments). Continuous review of purchasing methods and procedures and proposes changes, as necessary. Liaise with corporate procurement team on keeping up to date on market, pricing, and supply conditions of key raw materials. Meet annual cost savings/cost reduction targets. Provide ad hoc reports to management and corporate procurement teams. Maintain professional relationships with internal departments and external vendors, suppliers, contractors. Qualifications Post-Secondary education from a recognized college or technical institute in the field of purchasing or supply chain management. 4-5 years’ experience in a purchasing environment related to manufacturing (plastics, chemical, or related industry). An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered. General knowledge of manufacturing/production processes. Supplier audit experience. A proven track record of maintaining supplier relationships, conducting site visits, etc. Strong computer skills (MS Office suite, Peoplesoft, ERP systems). Works well and collaborates with teams. Effective problem-solving & decision-making skills. Strong organization and priority setting skills. Forward thinking; analyzes potential problems and or opportunities. Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written). Demonstrates professional demeanor and candor.
