OverviewLaboratory Assistant - LHSC (Kelowna Float & Mobile Collections) at Dynacare, Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada.ResponsibilitiesAs a Laboratory Assistant - LHSC, you are responsible for processing blood samples and other laboratory specimens, entering requisitions and results accurately and in a timely manner.Provide customer service to create the best possible patient experience; demonstrate empathy, care, and kindness.Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, using venipuncture skills, in keeping with Dynacare’s mission and values.Sort and steer specimens and perform ECGs.Ensure specimens and supporting documentation are completed as required in SOPs and ready for data entry and transportation to the laboratory, following established protocols for handling of suitable and unsuitable samples.Maintain confidentiality of information and contribute to meeting departmental/corporate quality metrics and regulatory compliance.What YOU Bring To The RoleCSMLS or BCSLS certified and/or a graduate of an MLA program accredited by BCSLS or equivalent awarding body (Canadian).Applicants with a Bachelor degree in a related scientific discipline or nursing, or international MLA or MLT qualification, AND a minimum of 1 year patient-facing phlebotomy experience may also be considered.Minimum of 2 years of experience as an MLA.Customer-focused with a genuine care for patient health; demonstrated phlebotomy skills and ability to support anxious patients in a calming manner.Ability to prioritize and self-manage within a deadline-oriented environment; attention to detail.Proficiency in English (written and verbal); valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; willingness to work independently.Working ConditionsNormal office and medical laboratory environments; required walking with repetitive motions; may sit or stand for prolonged periods with extensive computer use.Required to lift up to 30 pounds as required; exposure to bio-hazardous substances, temperature differences and noise variances; may require frequent standing, sitting, bending.CompensationSalary from: $24.25 per hour.
