About Kelowna and Kelowna General Hospital Kelowna is the Okanagan's largest and liveliest population centre, known for its lakeshore community, mountain landscapes, and year‑round outdoor activities. Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) is one of two tertiary hospitals within Interior Health and the region’s main referral centre, offering a full range of services with approximately 400 beds and over 84,000 emergency department visits annually. Adjacent is the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre (IHSC), BC’s only cardiac critical care centre outside Victoria and the Lower Mainland, featuring nine specialized operating rooms and two dedicated to cardiac surgery. KGH also houses a modern maternity ward, enhanced laboratory and clinical departments, dedicated psychiatry units for youth and adults, and serves as a teaching centre for the Southern Medical Program affiliated with UBC. Practice Details We invite a general adult Psychiatrist to join our expanding Psychiatry department. The team serves KGH’s 30‑bed inpatient unit, a 6‑bed Adult Mental Health Intensive Care Unit, provides consults to medical/surgical units and the emergency department, and maintains a community‑based practice. Key responsibilities include patient assessment and treatment, collaboration with clinicians and managers, and assistance with development and maintenance of programs, policies, and procedures. The department treats serious and persistent mental illness populations with intensive case‑management support and offers opportunities in the Mental Health and Substance Use clinic or telepsychiatry. Teaching opportunities with medical students and residents are available, and leadership development is offered through Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program. Compensation Fee‑for‑service; estimated remuneration $250,000 – $400,000, plus MOCAP level 2 Physician overhead costs associated with private practice only. Benefits and Incentives Relocation funding available $9,000 – $15,000 for 1.0 FTE positions; part‑time opportunities may be eligible for pro‑rated reimbursement.
