As a Senior Buyer with J.D. Irving, Limited, you will work as part of a cross-functional team with Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance to provide recommendations on contracts and ensure procurement supports the overall project schedule. This position is located at our head office in Saint John, New Brunswick.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement contract strategies for major capital equipment and servicesNegotiate all commercial (and in some cases technical) aspects of purchasesProvide purchase recommendations based on cost, quality, and deliveryNegotiate/Lead discussions for any post-contract disputesReview and development of Request For ProposalsOpportunities to challenge yourself daily by making quick and creative decisions to meet requirements of the site in a fast-paced environmentBuild, maintain, and manage relationships with key vendorsIdentify and capture cost savings opportunitiesQualificationsPost-Secondary educationExcellent communications skillsStrong negotiation, communication, presentation, interpersonal, and influencing skillsProficient in Microsoft ExcelSelf-Motivated and able to work under pressureEngages interest and participation from others and has a collaborative approachAssertiveHigh attention to detailAbility to multitask while prioritizing workloadResults-oriented with the ability to plan and deliver against project deadlinesAbility to build good rapport with customers and suppliersExperience in procurement is considered an assetAbout UsFounded in 1882, J.D.
