Sessions are offered on a first come, first served basis. You will support young people with concerns such as mental health, anxiety, depression, family and relationships, school challenges and suicide. Support is provided through a person-centered approach aligned with counselling best practices.What You’ll BringAbility to support youth via phone and live chat based counselling services, moving between modalities on every shift.Strong risk assessment and safety planning skills pertaining to youth risk and safety: Child Welfare, Suicide and Self-Injury, Substance Abuse, Threats against Others, etc.Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment on escalation to management.A strong work ethic, professionalism, and ability to maintain boundaries when addressing challenging calls with strong emotions.Reflexive practice; empowering, strengths-based, client-centered approach; non-judgmental; professional boundaries; advocate for service users’ autonomy; commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility; adaptability to changing client needs.Empathetic, curious and professional communication.Ability to align own counselling style with Kids Help Phone’s clinical model.Active engagement in supervision, clinical consultations, training, and team activities.Participation in a positive workplace culture aligned with Kids Help Phone’s values (Courageous, Collaborative, Innovative, Resilient, Trustworthy).Ability to work in a high-energy, dynamic environment.What You’ll NeedBachelor or Master’s degree or diploma in social services (Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, etc.) or equivalent with crisis work experience; practicum/placement considered.1-2 years of crisis intervention and/or counselling experience, including risk assessment and safety planning.Excellent English communication skills (spoken and written); French required for bilingual positions.Knowledge of national and provincial youth-related legislation and appropriate referrals to authorities when needed.Strong typing and written communication for Live Chat service.Stable high-speed internet (minimum 25 Mbps download, 10 Mbps upload) and a closed private workspace.Residence in Quebec requires bilingualism due to call distribution and work needs.If you do not meet every qualification, we encourage you to apply anyway to support our diverse, inclusive culture.Training dates for 2025 are listed below.
