Performs ongoing respiratory care in a multi-disciplinary setting to clients with a variety of illnesses/diseases including, but not limited to acute and/or chronic cardio-respiratory illnesses or pathologies by working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Enhances quality of life from the perspective of the client/family. Consults, confers and collaborates with other health care professionals. Demonstrates continuous improvement and best practice approach in respiratory practice. Maintains and advances own clinical competence. Participates on committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned. Shift Rotation/Hours of workDays, Nights, 07:00 to 19:00, 19:00 to 07:00 (rotating) Fort St. John Hospital and Health CentreFort St. John Hospital and Health Centre has 44 Acute Care beds and 124 residential beds and is equipped to handle 22,000 ER visits per year. Highlights about the hospital include: Endoscopy suite, 2 state-of-the-art operating rooms, plus a procedure room Ambulatory clinics including Cancer and Hemodialysis Medical and Surgical inpatient rooms (40 beds) 3 Intensive care units Minor surgeries 7 single Maternity rooms for Labour, Delivery, and Post-Partum Health Unit and Primary Care Clinic serving the community Fort St. JohnFort St. John is known as "The Energetic City," reflecting a large resource base of oil, natural gas, forestry and agriculture. It overlooks the Peace River and serves as the capital of the Peace River district. The community has a population of over 21,400 and serves a broader area. Current certification with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and eligible for registration with the British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT) and CSRT. Current valid BC Driver's License as required in the specific practice area. Skills and Abilities Assessment and Treatment: Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions. Teaching: Ability to teach clients and others both one-on-one and in groups. Knowledge Integration: Integrates best practice and current research evidence to support professional practice decisions and actions. Communication: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, the public, medical staff and members of the interdisciplinary team using verbal, written, computer communication means. Ability to effectively apply conflict resolution skills. Critical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate data to problem-solve and make decisions effectively using a systems approach. Human Caring and Relationship Centered Practice: Promote client-focused care, sensitivity to diverse cultures, client advocacy and social justice concerns. Management: Organize work, set objectives and establish priorities. Manage time and resources, promote cooperation among the interdisciplinary team. Leadership: Promote staff morale, engagement and empowerment; plan for change and innovation; implement policies and professional development. Teamwork: Foster teamwork and a commitment to excellence in client care. Equipment: Computer skills including Meditech and Windows-based programs; data analysis and reporting tools; email and word processing; operate related equipment as required.
