This includes providing market research and analysis to inform decisions related to program viability, sustainment, and renewal.This position spearheads the market research and analysis to support new academic programs and reports on graduate outcomes for cyclical review processes of current programs. The analyst works in a consultative manner with faculty members and academic officers in departments, schools and faculties to design data collection approaches and instruments focused on matching academic program content and outcomes with market data (e.g., job postings, employment data). The analyst researches societal and labour market trends, assesses competitive programs, analyzes economic reports and creates summary reports that are used to guide decision-making.Organizational StatusThis position reports to the Senior Manager, Academic Programs, Teaching and Learning in the Provost's Office.This position will also work closely with other members of the Provost’s Office and will interact with faculty members, educational consultants and curriculum developers in faculties and will maintain connections with a broad spectrum of data stakeholders at UBC.Work PerformedProvide timely, accurate, and meaningful market research and analysis for use by program proponents in faculties, senior administration, academic officers and committees in the conceptualization, development, sustainment and renewal of credit and non-credit programs.Plan, design, develop, and implement analytic reports and statistical information in areas such as career and employment prospects, enrolment trends, student experience, and demographics.Develop and enhance data processes to support new and revised program enrolment projections.Extract and synthesize information from a variety of data sources, including university databases, government labour statistics, licensed software programs (e.g., Lightcast) and industry-specific reports to inform program viability assessments.Conduct primary and secondary research on labour market data to identify in-demand trends for new knowledge and skills at regional, provincial and national levels.Plan and implement surveys and other investigative tools.Respond to ad hoc requests for information and undertake special analytical projects as necessary.Provide input into and, as appropriate, support the design and/or selection of information systems that are used in association with market research data analysis.Stay current in the field of educational market research, including the tracking of research trends and developments.Use data gathered to advise on risk and opportunities via reports and presentations.Support other projects within the Academic Programs in the Provost’s Office as assigned.Consequence of Error/JudgementThe position requires an accurate knowledge of a wide range of university policies and procedures. Data and analyses produced by the incumbent are used in formulating policy, in making decisions relating to the future of the university, in evaluating the effectiveness of non-credit and credit academic programs, and in mandatory reporting. Errors in design or analysis of research could have far-reaching consequences. The position must make responsible recommendations in dealing with policy issues and must be vigilant that the data produced are accurate. Errors in judgment could not only diminish the effectiveness of UBC in its leading role in the education and development of British Columbians, Canadians, and international students, but could result in considerable financial loss and the reduced stature and reputation of the university and its senior executives.Supervision ReceivedThe incumbent is expected to operate largely at their own discretion within broad parameters set by the Senior Manager, Academic Programs, Teaching and Learning. The position is expected to show considerable initiative in developing appropriate research methodologies, drawing information from relevant and up-to-date sources, drawing key conclusions, and in ensuring that their analyses are timely, accurate, and comparable.Supervision GivenThis position may occasionally be required to advise and supervise students in portfolio units of the Provost’s Office.Minimum QualificationsPost graduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of four years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s ownDemonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusionPreferred QualificationsA Master’s degree is preferred with an emphasis on data analysis, market research or similar.Experience working in an environment involving research, analysis and measurement.Demonstrated quantitative and qualitative analytical skills and strong attention to detail.Strong understanding of, and experience analyzing labour market data in the context of credit and non-credit program development.Previous experience working with survey data,.Experience producing data visualizations for professional and lay audiences.Ability to access, analyze, and convert data into strategic information.Proficient in MS Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and statistical analysis software (e.g. SPSS, SAS, Stata, R) or advanced knowledge of Excel.Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting data, and proficiency with survey software (e.g. Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, Google Forms).Experience with Lightcast, or similar software that enables market research data analysis.Evidence of commitment to building a work environment that is equitable, inclusive and diverse.Excellent at building relationships and consulting with stakeholders.Ability to anticipate issues related to the learning environment in higher education.Ability to exercise sound judgment and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines, being thorough and accurate with strong attention to detail.Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.Ability to synthesize findings into coherent summary reports that convey data in a meaningful way, including effective communication of the results.Experience in an institutional research office in a university or educational setting preferred.Experience designing and managing projects. #J-18808-Ljbffr
