Supervises Speech Language Pathologists and Speech Language Assistants across Fraser Health locations, prepares and adjusts work schedules, provides clinical guidance, and delivers clinical services in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Participates on interdisciplinary/interdepartmental and professional committees to advocate for Public Health goals and aligns with SLP standards and scope of clinical practice. Ensures staff receive required training for orientation and supervision of students; participates in student education/evaluations as required. Provides education and in-service training to community agencies, patients, families, and team members as requested. Works with the Manager to address disciplinary issues, recruit and select staff, prepare budget information, and maintain statistical data. Plans new/existing programs, reviews and updates Public Health service policies and quality standards related to SLP clinical practice. Participates in program meetings, develops research programs, and maintains knowledge of current developments in SLP services.ResponsibilitiesEstablishes, implements, and evaluates SLP objectives, policies, procedures, and annual department plan to meet goals identified by the Manager.Coordinates day-to-day SLP activities for Public Health to optimize resource use and staff scheduling, providing clinical guidance and collaborating with SLP leaders as required.Provides clinical services to clients, assessing problems, formulating goals, planning and implementing treatment plans, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team.Supervises designated staff, including interviewing, orienting, disciplining, directing, performance evaluations, and organizing in-service education. Manages grievances in consultation with Union Officers, HR and the Manager. Manages staff functions such as schedules and vacation/leave approvals.Participates on interdisciplinary/ interdepartmental and professional committees and client conferences; communicates needs and concerns related to processes, equipment, patient care, quality, and workload. Advocates for Public Health goals per SLP standards.Plans new/existing patient programs by identifying service needs, collaborating with the team, making recommendations, and assisting in evaluating and implementing services.Reviews and develops Public Health policies and procedures related to SLP practice; maintains manuals and informs staff of revisions as required.Promotes quality management activities for Public Health related to SLP practice; monitors impact of changes in client care and recommends policy/procedure updates to the Manager.Provides education and in-service training to community agencies, patients, families, and team members; participates in departmental, hospital, and regional educational programs as required.Maintains knowledge of current developments in evidence-based SLP practice; reviews literature and attends education programs to enhance client care.Performs other related duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation and ExperienceMaster's Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an approved educational institution. Three (3) years related clinical experience in Speech-Language Pathology including a minimum of one (1) year in a supervisory or leadership capacity or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Current active registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC and certification in applicable advanced competency. Eligible for membership in the Canadian and/or BC Association of Speech/Language Pathology and Audiology (CASLPA and/or BCSLPA).Skills and AbilitiesDemonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Ability to establish and maintain effective communication with children, families, staff, and community agencies.Ability to establish priorities and organize workload.Ability to supervise and provide support to others.Ability to organize and conduct workshops and seminars on hearing and communication disorders.Demonstrated leadership abilities.Ability to operate related equipment.Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.About Fraser HealthFraser Health serves over two million people in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley in British Columbia.
