Senior Geochemist/Mine Water Quality SpecialistStantec is seeking a Senior Environmental Geochemist / Mine Water Quality Specialist to join our Environmental Services team. The position can be located in Victoria, BC; Sidney, BC; Burnaby, BC; Markham, ON; or Waterloo, ON with flexibility for other offices and relocation assistance available.Your OpportunityThe ideal candidate will capitalize on existing client relationships to expand Stantec’s profile and market share in regional and national markets. The successful candidate will contribute to water quality and geochemistry field programs, environmental assessments, and environmental permitting activities for mining projects, among others.Key ResponsibilitiesPromote a strong health and safety culture and actively participate in Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security and Environment ProgramSupport geochemical and water quality components of projects including environmental assessments, models, and monitoring programsLead multi-discipline teams with water-related mining projects (geochemists, water quality specialists, hydrogeologists, engineers)Lead complex projects with initiative and independence across a broad knowledge baseProvide guidance to clients, project managers, and technical staff on mining-related water issuesLead water quality and quantity model projectsInterpret and analyze data and provide technical support for water resource and environmental projectsPerform research related to technical issues or projectsCollaborate with other scientists and engineers on baseline and impact assessments, feasibility studies, groundwater/surface water assessments, contaminant investigations, and rehabilitation projectsPrepare technical reports and perform QA/QC of technical documentsPerform data analysis and data visualization using technical softwareConduct and support fieldwork as neededAssist with proposal development and project task financial and schedule managementCapabilities and CredentialsFluent understanding of Canadian and provincial water quality guidelines, legislation, licensing and permitting particularly relating to mining in BC, Ontario and Atlantic CanadaWillingness to travel to lead field crews, perform environmental monitoring, or participate in meetings with clients/regulatorsFundamental project-task management skillsProven ability to analyze field and technical data, perform research, demonstrate technical knowledge, and solve problemsStrong organizational and communications skills (written, verbal, graphical)Strong technical aptitudeEffective time management for varying priorities and deadlinesSolid computer skills including MS Office; knowledge of water chemistry and contaminant transport modeling software (e.g., Goldsim, PHREEQC, Minteq, MIN3P) and Excel is preferredExperience preparing environmental assessments/impact statements and regulatory applicationsEducation and ExperienceB.Sc. in Geochemistry, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, or Earth Sciences/Engineering with a focus in geochemistry; advanced degree may be preferredMinimum 10+ years of relevant consulting experience in the mining sector (mine waste geochemistry assessment, water quality predictions/modeling, or related impacts); 15+ years preferredProfessional registration or eligibility (P.Geo. or P.Eng.)Valid Driver’s LicenseTypical office environment; this role may involve fieldwork and travel as required.Stantec is a place where the best and brightest come to build on each other’s talents, do exciting work, and make an impact on the world around us.
