The Operations Manager, located in the Whitbourne District, will be responsible for the effective and efficient day-to-day 24/7 operations of the EMS service. This includes managing over 100 paramedics and a dynamic EMS system to meet the performance requirements of the ambulance service for the contracted service area and surrounding areas. The role supports the corporate strategic goals, builds staff capabilities, and implements changes to improve service levels by supporting both external patient care and internal staff. The overall general role is to direct and provide oversight for the workforce in a positive manner while supporting relations with external partners for major strategic projects across the organization and mitigating risk for MHNL. The successful candidate will support the senior management team as needed, ensure maintenance of ambulances, support vehicles, and medical equipment, promote a culture of reporting among staff, implement changes to improve patient care and minimize risk, manage staff performance, handle complaints, oversee daily operations according to Medavie policies, participate in recruitment, ensure compliance with regulations, stay updated on legislative and technological developments, evaluate departmental operations, report results to senior leadership, manage paramedic resources, collaborate with other emergency services and stakeholders, assist in investigations, coordinate major incidents and disaster management, and perform other duties as assigned. Professional Qualifications & Competencies Completed an approved Paramedic training program and currently registered as either a Primary Care Paramedic or an Advanced Care Paramedic in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Minimum of five years’ experience as a paramedic with a minimum of three years in a progressively responsible leadership role or equivalent. Proven experience in EMS management, information technology, finance, and human resources. Comprehensive understanding of appropriate federal, provincial and municipal legislation and regulations related to Ground Ambulance and Emergency Medical Services. Experience leading and facilitating training and working groups. Valid Class 4 driver’s license in Newfoundland and Labrador (or equivalent). Exercise independent judgment and problem solve with discretion. Committed to providing excellent levels of customer/patient service and passionate about business growth within MHNL. Demonstrated leadership abilities with a proven track record for inspiring and motivating others. Skilled in leading and developing staff. Uses a positive and creative approach to problem solving. Outstanding communication, negotiating, and dispute resolution skills. Working knowledge of standard business computer programs (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite). A post‑secondary education in business administration would be considered an asset. Regular business hours required; some irregular hours may be expected. Travel may be required.
